Love The Animals...Can't Stand The People......

Common theme heard from middle aged or older buyers as a reason to head to a smaller populated state like Maine. Some are starting over after a failed marriage and just want out from ex-family members with nose problems that are making their life miseable. Or the therapy and lawsuits over the neighbor's fence encroachment on one side at their city home, or the pit bull that caused thirty five stitches to their toddler on the other side of their present urban castle make them bail out. They can't take it anymore. Sell what they own, pocket a tidy profit after living there for four decades and point the U-Haul truck north on I-95. Keep pointed north...when you hit Kittery Maine...keep going...five+ hours to the top of Maine. Many want a little farm on the end of a dead end road, with a New England white home, a red barn, a pond, 100 acres and no neigbors except Bambi, Mr. Fox and a slug of birds. They just want to be left alone on their patch of dirt or the hidden cabin on their woodlot or the waterfront cottage on their remote pond. They want to enjoy the scenery and to learn to relax while they are still healthy enough to have a saner life. Restore a queen anne turreted victorian or open a mom and pop business. The common theme is "Get me away from city people". Some are having a mid life crisis. Want to control, alternate and delete the course they are on..the busy impersonal high speed conveyor belt city pace. They just pull the rip cord and consider Maine and other less densely populated states. They want to forget reality television, abandon fast food for organically grown nutrition, avoid traffic and start thinking about raising a family/enjoying grandchildren in a small value based community that just makes sense. No more drama at work, at home, among the wall to wall sea of people where they live now. Some buyers are home schoolers. Some are telecommuters with their website and high tech gadgets packed up in a brown box to set up in the front den in their new way way lower priced home. Some want good health care but slower healthier lifestyle in the golden years of their life. The motivation beside more economical living is less people...less pushey rude people. Less drama, less threats or anger...just peaceful living in a community they can make a difference in. Sound like something you find is missing in the wall to wall, faster faster impersonal place you may find yourself in on the planet today? Trapped? We need to talk. You have just stumbled on what is missing in your life now and clearly seeing the changes needed to get the boat to stop rocking. Saddle up your donkey...Maine is calling your name. You have a home waiting in Maine!

When I think of some of the top places to live, I've never thought about Maine. It does sound interesting.

Greg, with a little coaxing, some reading and if you can go to a quiet place to do some life changing kinda thinking...I read between the lines and hear you saying you are ready to move to Maine....Here to help you my man. Seriously, many of us live in neat states with out throngs of population to choke the best of what life has to offer. You may be in the perfect place under the sun right where you are now! Come on a vacation to Maine..see some lighthouses, eat some lobster, enjoy the foilage colors, ride a snowsled thru a winter wonderland...it is neat living here!

Your post intrigued me enough to click on through to your web site. You have properties in the 80s, in the low 100s!!!! Wow! I'm in Los Angeles, CA, and we haven't seen those number since the 1970s. Maine looks like a beautiful place to live. I 'spose a Native Californian would have to adjust to the seasons, though. <s>

Cheryl...you can buy a palace for $50's...neat three bedroom home, hardwood floors, newer oak kitchen, deck, sliders, cathedral living room in a neat town. Prices are sooo much lower here. Will scope your site out too to see what living where you live will cost me!

This looks like my kind of place. The only thing that bothers me is, I've heard (maybe wrongly) that it is always COLD, don't have much of a summer there and the winters are long and harsh. Is this true???

Debbie...we ski, snowsled, kids play ice hockey, and with global warming...not enough snow really. 19 degrees average winter temperature...not 35 below with wind all the time. Four season...up here farm enough so not a zillion people too! Thanks for the invite to the group. It sounds like we are selling the same kind of property just in different locations. You in the North and me in the South. A totally different way of life for people living in the hurry up, rush, rush world of large cities with high expenses and crowded quarters. Thank God for computers!
