ActiveRain Channels - Are You Tuning into the Right Channel?ActiveRain Channels

There are numerous places you can get exposure to your blog on ActiveRain. The blog roll is literally the hodgepodge of listings, humor, learning, market stats and more. Placing your blog into the right categories and channels gives that blog a chance to shine on a homepage a little longer. Finding the right channel, group, or category can be tricky and you may not know how to go about titling it correctly. Here are some basics I have learned about ActiveRain channels and how they can benefit your blog.

1. Check out the channels first. Once you have constructed your post go in and look at the various channels that might match. If you write a post on certified mold inspectors (as I do often) I will find a channel that is somewhat popular and go with that.

2. Once you click on the channel, you can see the most popular topics in that channel. Since I post about mold and inspections a lot I check out the "home improvement" channel. At the top is "maintenance" This is the most frequently used title folks use in the "Home Improvement" Channel. But there are many others.

3. Use the same verbiage for a variety of your blogs. Meaning if you have numerous blogs about home inspections, use that term every time. This will help with search engines to clump all your blogs and links together gaining you more authority on that topic. Don't change the channel title every time if it's similar blogs.

4. If you use these most popular channels, you are more likely to stay visible longer. Use some of the most popular terms in your channel and you will gain more exposure from those viewing that channel. Just another way to gain exposure, subscribers and readers.

Groups are a little different as they can be on anything in that group. A channel is more specific. I found an article by Brad Anderson about this topic while I was
home inspections, mold inspectorsresearching a little and it really helps clarify why Channels can be so important. Channels work great in search terms. If you are searching something specific about Facebook, Twitter or Home Inspections you can find tons of content in that channel verses sifting through a group.

I am bad at channels. I know that I should always post to the same channel, like... New Milford CT real estate, or something like that. I asked if I could go back and change the channels and told I could. Thanks for the reminder...

I generally do post to channels & think I have become better at it than I was at the beginning.  I had not thought about going back to change channels on the older ones so thank you Andrea for the suggestion!
