Instead of placing price tags, tell your costumers as soon as they come up the driveway, “Everything is negotiable!”

When someone asks, “How much do you want for this?” you can say, I’d love $60 for it... but I will take $20.” It also aids if you pause long enough before giving the final price as if you are saying “This is very painful thing to come down this low. It is amazing that some buyers once they heard the statement, they give the price rather than negotiate further...maybe because you already did the negotiating for them.

Do’s and Don’ts”:

  • DO give a sensible “what you’d like” price.
  • DON’T ask the shoppers to name the price. They will definitely answer “two dollars.”
  • DO listen to costumers as they comment on an item, even if they don’t purchase it. It will provide you a clue as to the item’s desirability.
  • DO apply timing to your advantage. Final prices during the first two hours should be higher than the final prices around Noon.
  • DON’T attempt to sell clothing or shoes individually after the first 2-3 hours. In its place, if a size 10 comes along, present ALL size 10 items at a take it all price. The same technique could be used for many types of same items.
  • DO employ items as negotiating tools for other items, particularly if they’re on the fence about it.  “If you purchase that I’ll toss in a free lip gloss or make-up bag”
  • DO inform costumers about what is in your sale.
  • DO sell dated decor NOW than wait for a few years to see if you’ll ever use it again. By then it will be ENTIRELY dated. Some sell some good-quality brass items and some rooster items that you will never use again. Some still decorate with brass and roosters, but after few years no one will look twice on it.

Once 1:00 hits, everything should be labelled ridiculously low nevertheless you want to haul it back inside for next year. Subsequently, enjoy your new-found riches and newly-fashioned empty spaces!
