It's Just Hot Water

Yolanda Realtor - O'Fallon, IL Real EstateHubby and I went out to a Chinese buffet in O'Fallon earlier tonight.  As we sat down, we ordered water and hot tea.  The server said that they were out of hot tea.  My husband and I looked at each other kinda incredulous at this.  What kind of a Chinese restaurant is this?  No hot tea?  Server looked at the hostess, hostess looked at the server, then I said it's just... hot water.

The hostess spoke to the server, you can do this, go get them hot tea!  We laughed, and proceeded to the buffet table.  When we came back the tea was there, all hot and steamy.

All was well, and we had a good dinner, with hot tea.

The end.

I gather they managed to find a tea bag to go with that hot water. Fun story.

A sad occurrence but that is sometimes the level of service you encounter anymore.

Sort of the same thing...in NYC for business one winter I ordered ice tea in a restaurant. I was told they didn't serve ice tea as it was winter. Duh.

So, in the spirit of "5 Easy Pieces" I ordered hot tea and a tall glass of ice! Duh back at 'cha

No Hot Tea in a Chinese Restaurant?

That's like going to Oktoberfest, and hearing "Sorry, we are out of Beer".

There must be tea (hot) tea in a chinese restaurant.  It is just the way it is done.

Wow -- no hot tea in a Chinese restaurant -- who would have thought -- glad they managed the hot water and hope they found a suitable tea bag -- all the best.

Yolanda - that is funny. One time, at a business lunch with some clients, one of the clients asked for a diet soft drink. The server said that they only had regular soft drinks, but, she picked up a packet of Sweet n Low and told the client that he could put some of that in and make it a diet drink.

Commodity prices have been going up so maybe tea is getting expensive.

All the comments just made my evening.  LOL

Hella - I think they served us good old Lipton tea, which was ok with us.  :)

Jon - It shouldn't have taken them long either had they served the iced tea.  To think they didn't have to heat it up.  lol

Fred - That would be unthinkable!  lol

Tim - Like day follows night.

Bob and Carolin - We came in around 7:30 and they close at 9:00 I guess they were anticipating closing early and turned off the pot.  lol

Krista - I'm glad you got a chuckle out of it.  ;)

Yolanda: You need to start carrying an extra tea bag in your purse. Glad you finally got your hot tea. Maybe the tea party folks had been there earlier and used up all the tea bags.

Chirag - I almost wished I carry tea bags in my purse.  LOL  I do have a girlfriend who does that.

Mike - That sounds like a blonde joke.  lolol

Kev - You have to take your wife out for dinner more often.  ;)

Dale - Perhaps they used up the old tea bags earlier and didn't want to start anew?

John - It was a humorous experience with that staff last night--we never met them before.

The comments were way better than the post.  :)

Yolanda--This is pretty funny. When I worked at a restaurant years ago they wouldn't let us serve hot water without charging for tea...the manager didn't want the frugal people that brought their own tea bags getting a "freebie". Sounds like you had no problem getting the hot water...lol.

Teri - LOL  I can see why they wouldn't serve hot water in that case.

Howdy and evening to you Yolanda

Yolanda,

Have a good one
