One of the reasons that I moved to the South was to escape the dreadful winters north of the Mason-Dixon Line! As a youth I learned that shoveling snow was NOT something that I enjoyed doing.
So I headed for the warmer climate of Georgia, with its shorter, milder and wetter winters. And for most of the nearly four decades that I have been here, I have been very satisfied with my decision.
But the last few winters here in Dixie have been colder and snowier than usual. It was almost as if my past had crept up on me and found me! We had our third snow of the year a week ago today!
But yesterday depression was transformed into exhilaration as I beheld patches of daffodils blooming around the neighborhood! And just as William Wordsworth was moved to pen words to paper over two hundred years ago, so was I!
I wandered lonely as a cloud
That floats on high o'er vales and hills,
When all at once I saw a crowd,
A host of golden daffodils; (W. Wordsworth)

Oh to see even the brown grass in my yard. There has to be a 2 foot crust of ice and snow in the gardens where my daffodils are probably turning over for their next snooze. Maybe by the end of May. Thanks for the positive thought.
Richard, I have seen sporadic signs of the daffodils starting to inch their way out of their long slumber. Way too early for this section tho...
Good morning, Richard....I love the poem "Daffodils" by Wadsworth....this finishes the first stanza:
"Beside the lake, beneath the trees,
Fluttering and dancing in the breeze."
Our temperatures here in the Raleigh area are very similar to yours and yesterday was just spectacular! With temperatures predicted to reach the 70's this weekend those daffodils will be in full bloom!
It is nice to see some color enter our landscapes again. Gorgeous photo Richard! Like you, we have experienced a highly unusual winter with a blanket of snow, days of school closings, etc. We are ready for the spring and all the explosions of beauty!
I think the snow is trying to follow you Richard, since you have been south so long I'll leave you with this reminder.
Richard,
You said it, brother! Looking for 75 degrees here tomorrow, and the Mrs. is hoping to take a vacation day.
When was the last time up north you had a picnic lunch by a lake in February??
Patience is called for during winter - even Georgia winters. You could come on down to Florida though!
Ed...
I have several relative in CT and they are as tired of the snow as you! THX
Michael...
This surge of warm air just might do it! Thanks.
Barbara...
It's one of my favorite poems! Thanks.
Craig...
Same here, I think everything will be blooming by Sunday! Thanks.
ILOVE DAFFODILS!
I had forgotten how pretty they are. Since I don't have a green thumb I have to resort to looking at other peoples flowers, flower magazines.
Hi Richard - great photo... still too soon in New Rochelle but cannot wait... Best, Gay
Richard, I can't wait to see the daffodils again they are one of the happiest flowers. I wonder if they seem happier because they are on of the first ones to bloom in Spring and they so raise up our spirits!
Isn't it glorious that we are seeing signs that the worst of winter is behind us?
Spring has sprung in your area Richard. WE are right behind you...about 10 weeks or so!
Gorgeous daffodils! I haven't seen mine yet but I see the Iris is popping through the ground. I hope the frozen days of Texas didn't kill the daffodils; I'll have to come pick yours :)
