Hyde Park was originally owned by S. H. Plant. He bought twenty acres of land west of Downtown Tampa in 1886. He called the area Hyde Park. The area is very convenient to downtown Tampa. It is the oldest platted residential area west of Hillsborough River in Hillsborough County. At the heart of Hyde Park is Old Hyde Park Village, an upscale commercial development, accents the new vitality of Tampa's most historic neighborhood district. Old Hyde Park has shops, restaurants and movie theaters. Many of the dining establishments have outside eating areas for the patrons to enjoy Florida's beautiful weather.  Old Hyde Park Village is located at Swann and Dakota Avenues.
