My “Mac” Experience…Part 1

Let's get something straight. I'm a PC girl through and through. However being the good Geek that I am, I realize that sometimes it's good to branch out. Not to mention, I would like to be able to service Macs as well as PC's. With that in mind, I logged onto the BestBuy website and found myself a powerful and aesthetically pleasing MacBook Pro. Do I need yet another computer? Not really; but I felt compelled to find out what all the fuss is about. I have friends who are Mac people and they swear by them and wouldn't dream of going back to a PC. The super powerful and seemingly invincible Mac...and so that is why I almost ecstatically spent $1300 on another computer. Yes $1300!! Kind of pricey for my PC blood to say the least. I mean realistically you can spend $500 and get a pretty decent laptop albeit not a Mac. So I comforted myself with the knowledge that I am doing this for the good of my business. Anyway, off to BestBuy I drove for my new "toy". I will end Part 1 here. Tune in tomorrow for part 2

I dumped PC's a long time ago. You will pay more for a MAC but a Mac will last so much longer than a PC. I do have XP running on my MAC for some platform proprietary programs. Other than that, I go to OSX.

I know some folks who have 8 year old MACS that will run rings around any new PC out there. There is one thing I never could understand about PC's tho. Why does it take so long to boot? I can boot XP on my MAC and within 20 seconds, I ready to go. Thy that on a PC. Ain't gonna happen...

Hi Michael,

You are correct that the Mac boots fairly quickly although my PC boots almost as fast. It depends on the PC and how much bloatware a person has installed. Too many programs running at start up cause the slow down. That can be remedied. Interesting you have XP running on your Mac. I was thinking of installing Windows 7 to have a dual boot situation on mine...

Karen - I bought an Iphone a few weeks ago and am extremely impressed with all it does. I think my next computer will be a Mac. I do like how Apple doesn't put all that extra junk software on the computers.

Some years ago, a Mac spokesman was asked, "Why is the Mac so expensive?"

His answer was, "We price to the limit of what the consumer will pay."

Apple then suffered many years of poor earnings, but they appear to have recovered through innovation, for which, the consumer is still willing to pay.

Hi Robert,

I know what you mean. I personally have a Droid but WOW! I am amazed at everything I can do. I can even accept credit card payments from clients on the go. It's fantastic! And yes you are correct. Apple does not load a bunch of extra (and most of the time useless) software onto their machines. Don't forget to check back tomorrow for Part 2 :)

Hi Lenn,

It's true...the consumer will pay for a quality product. And I will say that the Mac is solid, sleek and very powerful. :)
