Yesterday, Google announced that it's making its search results more social. Google will be blending content that a user's friends have shared or created on social-media sites with the search engine's results.
Hmmmmm. Now that's very intriguing!
In 2009 Google rolled out its first social search feature, although those results were always put at the bottom of the page. I'll bet you have noticed those social results in your searches for a while now. At the bottom of the search page there has been a section with a header: Results from people in your social circle for [Your Search Phrase Here].
Now, rather than being in a separate location below your search results, these SOCIAL results will be blended in with the main search results. Google will be mixing in content shared by your friends on Flickr, Blogger or Twitter. It will be woven into the search results to give you even more information from people who matter to you.
For example, let's say you are connected to me socially, and you are Googling information about Coeur d'Alene Gingerbread Houses. Your search results might include a couple of blog posts I've written, pictures I've posted online, a tweat I've made or a page link I've shared. Because you and I are connected, these things of mine will rank higher in your search than they will in a search of the same phrase by someone to whom I am not connected to on a social network.
THAT'S what is so intriguing! The wheels are turning. I am looking forward to learning more about how to utilize this new twist to maximize exposure for my business as well as my clients with the extensive online marketing I do for my property listings. Stay tuned!
