Blustery DayWow! It's a windy day here in the Rochester area!

It's been howling outside all day long. I took my dog for a walk this morning and for once was glad he's overweight, otherwise he might have blown away!

I also received a text message from one of my sellers this afternoon while I was running errands. He said that if the wind kept up my sign would probably have to be hammered in again, since it was starting to lean a little bit already. He kindly offered to do it, but it reminded me that I'll have to check all my other signs over the weekend. I don't know why, but they're designed a lot like sails; they catch every gust of wind!

That got me thinking... as home sellers, what can you do to make sure stormy and/or windy days don't sidetrack your sale?

Here are a few suggestions:

  • As mentioned above, check your sign, and let your agent know if it's leaning or if anything is broken. Believe me, your agent would rather know than have a sloppy-looking sign.
  • Walk around your house after the weather calms down and make sure everything on the exterior looks okay. Sometimes gutters, siding, etc. can come loose, and it's best to fix that ASAP.
  • Make sure there's no garbage or clutter that has blown into your yard; it can be an eyesore to buyers. Case in point... someone's grill cover is in my front yard right now.
  • If it's a very rainy day, check and make sure your sump pump is operational! This is especially true in early Spring when it hasn't run all Winter. Neglecting it can lead to a wet mess in your basement!
