Whitening that Dental Work Isn't Always Easy!

Okay, so maybe I should have spelled it "dentil." At any rate, my fireplace has been asking to be painted for a few years, but no matter how much we really wanted to do it, we knew there would be no turning back if we didn't like it.  But, rustic-finished wood wasn't really working in our house anymore.  Finally last weekend I decided it was time.  So we sanded, primed, and painted--WOW, that is a lot of work--especially painting all those "teeth."

Here is the after picture (taken after dark instead of in the morning--thus the different lighting).  We are now wondering why we didn't do it sooner!  Looks like tomorrow's job will be cleaning the pellet stove!

It looks great. You did a really good job. I painted mine last year, and it doesn't look nearly as good as yours!

Chris, I would rather sand the tiny teeth of the dentil work than go to the dentist! Really, you did a nice job on the painting. It looks great.

Hi Dawn - Thanks--It only took two coats of primer and two coats of semi gloss.  I think the wood drank the paint!

Hi Jacque and Larry - I have to agree with you there!  At least I didn't have to use a drill!

Hi Wanda - Thanks.  I should have waited until the morning for a better lighting shot, but I was anxious to show off my work.  : )

Wow, I purposely studied the top picture before I scrolled down to the bottom picture and I must say I never would have anticipated what a huge impact a simple paint job could make.  Again . . . Wow!

Hi Brenda - Paint can indeed make a huge impact!

Hi Joshua - Painting is an art in this household--two artistic children and a paint perfection wife.  No shortcuts allowed!

This is funny to me, because I'm moving from white trim to rustic!  Of course, I live in the country, so rustic is a nice fit for me.  I like the shade of white, and the sheen, very polished!

Hi Wanda - Every region has it's "in" things!  If I still lived in Colorado, I don't think I would be making this change.
