I had no idea until I read this article in our Times Union of the historical significance many of our areas had, particularly in the 17th and 18th centuries.
20 Mile Road, for example, was used to transfer runaway slaves, mail and messages. The developers of Nocatee ordered an archaeological study (required of St. Johns County for developing, so developers can seek organic opportunities for preservation) and discovered this, among other historically significant facts that lead to 5000 acres of preservation inside the Nocatee community.
