The SPACE SHUTTLE DISCOVERY, the FINAL MISSION
Space Shuttle Discovery, at last check was still scheduled for it's final mission this Thursday the 24th at 4:50pm. Yours truly will be there as long as no scrubbing takes place. Originally set to launch in November, it has been a long wait. I have seen them during clear skies from up to 200 miles away. That is most impressive! This time, the one and only time, we'll be about 6 miles away from the launch pad. Now 25 years later I'm setting my sights on Discovery because it is the most prolific orbiter, with 38 launches & missions under it's wing. Three of these missions included the Hubble Telescope and it's subsequent repairs in space orbit. Two more shuttles will make their final debuts this year to close out a remarkable history of Space Flights including the ill fated '86 Challenger launch and '08 Columbia re-entry disasters. Next scheduled launches are this April 19th then in November.
These daring Astronauts shall never be forgotten!
