Whidbey Island Kite FestivalCreative artwork was on display against a bright blue background at the Whidbey Island Kite Festival this weekend, September 22nd and 23rd.   The setting for this event was the Camp Casey Conference Center, better known around here simply as Fort Casey.  In a bygone era, Fort Casey was an operational military installation.  Today, it is part of the 467-acre Fort Casey State Park.

If you like lighthouses, you will want to stop by the Admiralty Head Lighthouse, which is also located in Fort Casey State Park.  The existing structure was built in 1903, the last brick lighthouse to be constructed.  Admiralty Head Lighthouse was decommissioned in 1922.

Above the expansive parade grounds of this historic site, the most colorful, whimsical and imaginative kites soared.  Sport kites danced to music in choreographed demonstrations of considerable skill.  Against a backdrop of the Olympic Mountains and the sparkling water of Admiralty Inlet, the kites flew for the sheer joy of it!Let's Go Fly a Kite!

We all get caught in the whirlwind, in the hustle and bustle of our business lives.  In our pursuit of excellence and self-fulfillment, we tend to set aside those vital three Rs:  relax, re-charge, and re-balance.

For me, the Kite Festival was a celebration of hope and optimism, a time for creating memories, and a great reason to close up shop and go play outside!  Invent your own festival -- take some time to do something just for joyfulness!
