King Carlos III, statue at Lake Merced, SF

At a spot overlooking Lake Merced, in San Francisco, we chanced across this statue of King Carlos III of Spain, dedicated by King Juan Carlos I, in the 1970s. A very regal looking king, but he didn't get any respect from the seagull!

This afternoon's hike in San Francisco took us through a neighborhood near the western edge of the City, around Lake Merced, through Pine Lake Park and Stern Grove, and to the West Portal neighborhood where we "discovered" the Peruvian restaurant, Fresca! (Worth a trip all on it's own--make a reservation.)

Once again, a few hours break from a busy work schedule left us refreshed and happy. From time to time, I suggest you pull away from the attractions on the midpeninsula and Silicon Valley, and enjoy exploring San Francisco, so close and easy to do.

Lottie:  This is just special as all get-out... as they say.  The poor little seagull... having such a slippery place to stand on.

Maybe he'll leave a little present before he makes his way to his next perch.  Very, very funny.  It will be nice to end this day and head to bed after such a laugh.  Thanks so much.  <smile>

@ Hella in #1:  I think it would be a great idea for a post if you would write a post, and share that video of the waves rolling onto Carmel Beach.  Most folks, myself included, have probably never seen anything like that... and I'm sure we would love it if you would share.  Thanks so much.

Thanks for sharing this shot and your local perspective, you sure live in a beautiful place.  So do I although so different.  I just posted a blog article tonight with one of my favorite images of my wife and our dog walking through Kelsey Creek Park in Bellevue, WA.  I love taking my camera along.

Hella, Carmel and the ocean there must have been spectacular. The air was clear as a bell in San Francisco, with snow seen on the slopes of Mt. Tamalpais, an unusual sight.

Hi Roger -- I feel very out of touch--too busy to spend sufficient time here lately. Hope you're well and happy. Nice of you to stop by, and I'm glad you enjoyed the photo.

Lottie--You described my kind of day!  When I was managing an office I used to keep my sneakers in the car for a quick walk at lunch time.  So refreshing.  I am going to post a few snowy pictures from my afternoon cross country skiing.

What a hilarious picture you captured!  We had a wonderfully sunny (though cold) day yesterday, and I went for a big long walk with my dog - it just feels so good to be outside this time of year!  Now if spring would just truly arrive...

I can relate to that picture.  Something about bug and windshield?  How lovely your walk sounds -- CA & I have started walking every day and I find I'm actually starting to look forward to it.  Who'da thunk it?

Mary, I envy you your cross-country skiing days. We have fabulous skiing, both downhill and cross-country, in the Sierra Nevadas, but it's a 3-1/2 hour drive one way, and this year we've simply been too busy! Please do post some pictures!

Nancy, it really was hilarious! The statue is so serious an pompous; the seagull comic relief. Glad you got out for a good, brisk walk. That's my favorite way to chase away cobwebs.

It reminds me of Lord Nelson in Trafalgar Square.  There are thousands of pigeons around.

Pretty comical, huh? I think Lord Nelson's statue qualifies as being a bit on the pompous side, too.
