When to hire an assistant

By
Real Estate Agent with West USA Realty

Hello everyone,

Hope your Monday is going well.  Had a question.  My partner and I are sitting at 15 listings and are steadily adding to that number.  We are wondering at what point should we plan on hiring an assistant.  We were thinking maybe someone for 20-25 hours a week to start.  We were also thinking somewhere around 30-35 listings we should do this.  Any thoughts your have would be great!!

 Thanks,

Shayne

My best assessment of when to hire an assistant is when you are too overwhelmed to do the work yourself.  A man I once worked for also told me this: "An employee must make you 3 times as much money as it costs you to pay them."  Figuring benefits, training, and headaches, I don't think that is that far off.

This sounds about right - I was told about 20-24 listings for a team of two.   I think it depends on how "needy" your clients tend to me.  Mine are very needy!

The rule of thumb I've heard for an individual practitioner is when closing between 2 and 3 houses a month, depending on whether the brokerage enters listings, and the other support available.

Konnie,

Yes, lets hope this market gets better soon:)  Anyhow we can probably do OK till we hit 30 listings or so.  But if you do ever move to Phoenix give us a call.  lol
