Radon Measurement

By
Home Inspector with Tribuzio Home Inspection Services

A common question from homeowners is, ‘Why didn’t we know about radon when we bought this house?”

Illinois law requires disclosure of radon levels, so the seller will usually end up paying for a radon problem to be fixed (either out of pocket, or through a lower selling price).

In the Chicagoland area 38% of homes test high.

Don’t let your buyers purchase a home without testing. It could cost them, both in terms of their health and their finances.

Good for you.

I believe that radon tests are important, especially in areas known to have high readings.  We have a number of them here.  I had a reading in Frederick County MD of 62.

That was scary.  The remeation cost $900 and the reading came down to below 2.5.

Those systems work.

Thank you!!

Lenn, that remediation cost , in comparison to what i have discussed with others, seems a bit higher than the average cost of remediation. It is a relatively simple fix when done right. I've heard around 500.

Not around here.  There are several companies that do them and the costs range from $850 to about $1600 depending on the basement foundation and grading.  I've had dozens of them done.  The average costs now are around $1,200.
