I had a bit of fun this week, and not at the REALTORS fun fest in New Orleans. No, this fun was closer to home, as a matter of fact right down the street here in Santa Monica at the World Cafe (hey Mandy!--the GM)  http://www.worldcafela.com/

In a conversation regarding the NEW! "just about" city wide SMOKING BAN, I was caught off guard by how many people appaul it (some applaud--most did not). The conversation was timely as this ban goes into effect the day after Thanksgiving (2006) and does not hold the establishment responsible for enforcement.

Some how the conversation turned to "you're either with it or against it" and isn't this just typical of the citizens of LA. You're a Blue state or a Red state, for McCain in 2008, or a free thinker. Finally the waitress chimed in and said, "...you're either a flake or you drink Mojito's...." Well that was that, and our little group slowly disbanded and I thought to myself "I never liked Mojito's".

The day before our smoking ban went into effect, the bars were full of smokers.  The ban has definitely impacted some of the smaller businesses, but overall life has just kept on keeping on!  If nothing else, the ban raised public awareness.

As a former smoker (and occasional cheater), the smoking ban in most of California has been welcome.  It really isn't that inconvenient to sit on a patio.  Infact, monthly cigar ritual on a patio of a certain Del Mar restaurant, overlooking the breaking surf, has become something of anticipated treat
