World Peace Cafe is a fabulous lunch spot - warning to meat lovers - it's a vegetarian place:-)

Got an early morning text asking if I was up for a spontaneous lunch with my best friend.   My schedule allowed for a fun lunch, so I said yes.  Now, we all fall into the routine of going to the same places over and over, and Annie & I certainly have done that.  Today, Annie suggested why don't we try a new place she had heard was great - World Peace Cafe in Sandy Springs, GA.

Now, while Annie and I are the best of friends, we are somewhat opposites:-)  All good, we appreciate and love the difference in each other.  She's gone off gluten's and is now going vegetarian (as of last week:-).  Again, as a meat loving carnivore (that's me) - who can't have just a salad, or I am starving later, I am in support of this, but....

I dash into World Peace Cafe, a charming and busy cafe at 12:40 today.  A nice family let us go ahead of them and I am still trying to get the hang of the menu and see what option might work for me, when I realize nothing that they have listed is like anything I have ordered before.  Well, it says World Peace Burgers, but my suspicions are high as tofu and non-chicken like products are mentioned in the menu.  I ask about the burgers and that's when the guy at the counter you order tells me the menu is entirely vegetarian:-0  Surprise.  It's also got a Buddhist twist to it, very nice, but again, no knowledge of this going in.

Since, I realize at this point, the family that let us go ahead is now ready to order I go for the safe move - the children's menu.  I ask quietly if it's OK if I just order the Children's PB&J.  The good news is after seeing my look of horror about only vegetarian food, he says yes.  At the same time, the little 5 year old boy with the family waiting to order says LOUDLY, I am going to order a Peanut Butter and Jelly, too!

The order taker tells the little boy they have lots of PB&J and we should all be good:-)  The best news is the PB&J was organic and tasted delicious.  The sun was shining and we got to eat outside on their patio, always a treat for February in Atlanta.  Annie & I giggled, as after having lunch for 10 years - she knows I am pretty boring and not as good of a new food person.

Annie loved her vegetarian dish, so do go if you are vegetarian, but good to know in advance:-)  We truly had a great time, but it will be a funny story for years to come.  The even better news is that Annie called right after we left and told me she told her husband what had happened.  He was laughing and offering to take me out for a nice piece of steak for lunch next week.  I might take him up on that if she keeps this up:-)

What are best friends for, if not to broaden your horizons?  Where have you been lately that was a surprise?

A good vegetarian place is a good place, period.  I love meat, but I've never been disappointed at a quality vegetarian place.

Richard,

Probably true, but we were both surprised, I was a few minutes late, and just was caught off guard, which lead to it being a bit humorous!

All the best, Michelle

PS I am definitely the type that needed to be prepared for that to put my thinking outside my regular food box hat on.

Hi Michele, what a beautiful way to spend a lunch...good sandwich...peanut butter and jelly, sitting outside and taking in the rays with a best friend.  I am happy that you enjoyed as well as shared.

Judith,

It was a GREAT day!  We had a blast and learned something new and checked out a fun place.  The organic iced tea was delicious:-)  Even better, any lunch with Annie is FABULOUS!

All the best, Michelle

So, Michelle, what did Annie order?  I grew up in the midwest and eat far more red meat than I should.  I try to go completely meatless at least 2 days a week so I'm looking for some suggestions.

Hi Michelle, I love PB&J sandwiches. I would have ordered that too. At least you had a nice lunch with a best friend and that is the best!

Annie had a tofu scramble - which she enjoyed with potato wedges.

It was the quickest decision I could make for something I knew I would eat:-)  Yummy and fun.  Just a surprise.

I know the feeling Michelle.  I have a tendency to stick with the tried and true. But I like veggies a lot so I might have experimented.  Hey I've got an idea.  Maybe when I make it to Altanta, you and I can have lunch at the World Peace Cafe.

Charita,

Happy to take you.  I will just plan ahead and check out options so I know what I am going to try with some thought to the process.

Can't wait to have lunch with you:-)

All the best, Michelle

The idea of a vegeterian diet doesn't appeal to me at all, but I had veggie quesadillas for lunch today... They were yummie, so maybe I should be more open-minded about the possibility.

Margaret,

I am right there with you:-)  I love meat, but probably need to be a bit more open-minded about the non-meat options.

All the best, Michelle
