Keller Williams Family Reunion: My take away from attending my first real estate conference

My take away from Keller Williams Family Reunion is that my time is important

I have attended probably well over a hundred conferences in my lifetime but they have all centered on what was happening in the computer software and hardware world.  I had no idea what to expect from a real estate conference.

In many ways it was very much the same as any of the computer conferences I have been to:

·        The crowds were too large

·        The parties too loud

·        The food totally inedible

The big difference was that what I learned here was very personal; this is about growing my business and what I need to be successful.  All the other conferences were about competing with another company’s new product, getting a better partner program in place or undoing the messaging that analyst got wrong about my product.

This was about being reminded that I have the tools I need to grow my business already.  I just need to take what I have always done for someone else and apply them to my business.

I know how to create a business plan that includes a budget and a marketing campaign.  I need to do that for myself.  I am my own product and I need to be as careful about my branding and knowing my target market as I was about the products I launched for Fortune 500 companies.

The most important thing I learned from attending this conference is the need to manage my time.  I have to budget for play and work.  If I don’t carve out play time before I set up my work time I will fail in all aspects of my personal life and business.

Come to think of it, I really needed to learn that lesson years ago, it is just seems more important now.

I did get a couple of shots of Gary Keller playing the guitar and sharing his lessons learned.  He has really found the balance we all wish we had.

Hi Carla, I've read accounts from various people about the KW event--sounds great. Did you meet Cindy Marchant, or other AR friends?

Lottie, I did not make it to the AR event unfortunately.  I drove down on Saturday and by the time I got there all I wanted to do was go to bed!  But I hear it was a great event.
