Lill the education pitbull was the real star of the show today.  She is one of New Mexico's State treasures, in my opinion.

Over the very cold weather of early February when pipes were bursting and heat was off for thousands, the shelter in Espanola found itself without water and heat.  100 +/- rescue animals were at risk.  The call went out and within four hours all animals were in private homes or lounging in private for-profit kennels.

So Lill, who looks very much like the pitbull shown here, managers, and board members were invited to receive a proclamation in the New Mexico Senate Chambers.  They said that Lill was their most famous guest, she has been there before and everyone loves her.  The proclamation mentioned the many citizens from surrounding areas, made room in their homes to care for these rescue cats and dogs.  Further, during the terrible cold, management found a way to keep the shelter available for new animals being brought in and to care for those animals in intensive care, unable to be taken into foster.

Ah, the wealth of talent and caring there is in this world.

Note:  Lill has been through a course and certification to be an education dog.  She goes to class rooms, retirement facilities, and the like to teach people about caring for animals and about the true nature of pitbulls if loved and taught well.
