~ Surviving My Serengeti Challenge - I Like to Stick My Neck Out For Others ~
First I need to say that I thoroughly enjoyed reading the first 2 chapters of Stefan Swanepoel's book entitled Surviving Your Serengeti, 7 Skills to Master Business and Life. I know I will be purchasing the book. It has certainly peaked my interested. I feel as though I have been left hanging on a cliff. I look forward to reading the rest of the story and to fully understand the interactions of all the animals in the Serengeti and how they correlate to our business world. I believe this will give me some insight on how to interact better with others and make me more successful in the business world and my personal life.
I took the test and was wondering how just 21 questions could group me into a an animal type. Actually, I took it four times, just to make sure. They all gave me the same results. I am a graceful giraffe. Now I know I am tall and have a long neck, but that was not why I seem to be a giraffe. According to the quiz, a giraffe represents "compassion towards others and the desire to extend good will." I have been told that I do put the needs of others above my own. And often, I was told that I placed extremely high standards upon myself. This I can trace back to when I was a youngster in school from what my teachers wrote on my progress reports. I have always been a perfectionist with everything I do and continue to be that way even now as I sell real estate.
In my real estate business, I have reviewed my 18 years of experience since reading and taking the short quiz, and I have discovered that this trait seems to string its way through the years. When I write a contract for a client, I have always asked the client a multitude of questions about their life, making sure they will have no remorse and that the property will fit their lifestyle. As in the photo, I stick my neck out for my clients. I always want what is best for the client and I make sure they know that. The transaction is always about them and never about me. I take a nurturing stance. I would rather mentor than manage others.
If you have not had the opportunity to check out this wonderful book or take the animal quiz, you should. Surviving Your Serengeti: An ActiveRain Challenge This challenge will open your eyes to a new way of thinking. I'm glad I did. And now I have to wait for the book to come out to learn more about myself and how I can adapt and learn about the other 'animals' within my business world and in my personal life.
