Ever wonder why those water tankers are at new home construction sites?

You drive by a new home subdivision or a plat of land where homes are slated for.  A lot of dirt.  And often, a water tanker.  Sometimes they can even be spotted "watering the dirt."  What gives?  Whats that all about?  Pretty simple, really.  Local authorities don't really want a whole bunch of dust/sand flying around when the wind kicks up - hence regulations to keep the ground at such locations moist.

One local builder was just busted and fined in excess of $150,000 for not following such dust control regulations.  I bet they'll remember to water their dirt next time!

Thanks for Reading :)

I didn't realize the fine could be so much.  I know in Arizona all we need is more dust!

Kaushik, that's interesting.  That's one expensive drink of water!

They do that here for dust control also!  With our water shortage I sometimes cringe when I see those trucks shooting water on streets.  Supposedly they use reclaimed water but

Of course, I have the bad fortune of driving by just after I've had my car washed and that big bruiser is unloading the truck on the street to wash away all the dirt that came from dump trucks clearing the site.  Oh well, just part of the real estate life!!

Wow. Don't think we have these in Flagstaff. But, you're using all our water down there!

Thanks for the info.  I'll have to check locally to see if we have anything like that in southern NJ.
