Anyone using Business Network Int'l?

Does anyone have any experience with BNI?  I have heard some wonderful things about this company.  I am in the process of reading Masters of Networking written by Ivan R. Misner who is the founder and chairman of the organization.

I do believe in the power of networking and I am curious to see if any of you have had success with their platform.

I don't belong but one of the guys in my office belongs to it.  At worst it is a great way to network and find reputable business to use for yourself.  I've used a few of his contacts for business, already.

Chris,

Thanks for the response.  I'm going to check out their website.  I know that you have to belong to one of their chapters and that you pay to become a member.

I will try to find out the scoop and post it on the blog.

That is interesting about your co-worker...so, it sounds like it is working for him.

I know that most local chambers of commerce have a LEADS group and I think it works on the same concept.  One person per industry, weekly or monthly meetings, etc.  I have heard that the BNI meetings are mandatory but if for some reason you are unable to attend, you can have a co-worker go in your place.

  • Only one person from each professional specialty is permitted to join a chapter of BNI.
  • All participants should represent their primary occupation, not a part-time business.
  • Attendance is critical. If you cannot attend a meeting, you may send a substitute. This will not count as an absence.
  • Participation in the chapter by members is a key to the success of a group.  Members can participate by bringing bona-fide referrals and/or visitors to their BNI chapter.
  • Ok....I found out some additional information for any of you that are interested.

I'm going to call tomorrow and see how much money they want to become a member of their group.
