It makes you feel proud and sad. Talking about being the leaders in technology and stopping exploration of the space. Not only Chinese finance us, thhey soon will charge for taking us to the space.
Lenn, indeed thanks for sharing. I think we all got so accustom to the shuttle going up and coming back, that we really only took notice when there was trouble. Seems how we can so often be here in America, taking things for granted.
I'm sorry I missed this, being with family messed up my schedule.
And as others have said, I can't believe our space program came to such a screeching halt. Yet Mr. Obama has hired some 200,000 new federal employees.
Give me a break.
George. I already regret it. I regretted it the day is was so coldly, casually and Cavalierly announced. I screamed, "WAIT A MINUTE"! You can't do that! I'm waiting for some grown-ups to retake the White House and get us back on track with our space program. The thought of the loss of our space supremacy through an Executive Order or whatever it was angers and saddens me beyond description.

Vic. I actually choke up when I even think of the loss of this program. Watching the launch was so sad as it was, at the same time, exciting.
Jay. AND THAT SPOKE VOLUMES OF THE TRUE DIRECTION OF THE PRESENT WHITE HOUSE and where it intends to take us, doesn't it.

Jeff. I've been "listening" since Sputnik (1957). I've been "watching" since John Glenn made history in 1962.
William. I remember it well and enjoyed every moment. I love a space flight and a good horse race.
John. "Hitchhiking". THAT is the word I've been looking for. Now I'm sad again.
Ruthmarie. I follow the United States space program addictively. I am so proud, as an American, of our space program and the men and women that make it possible.

Thomas. There is no "break" until we sweep that bunch out of office. That is my focus for the next two years.

One of the advantages of my location is that we went into the back yard and saw the old bird making it's way into space.

As each of these last shuttles take flight I wounder what will happen to my backyard. Hate to see the potential economic problems. I watched yesterday while driving home from an appointment. I guess to me the shottle program has always been so routine.
We've taken these flight for granted for a long time. We've learned a lot but still have so much exploration yet to come. Sad to see these workhorses come to the ground permanently.
Gary. It has almost become routine to many, but to me each launch and landing is unique and I am glued to my TV.
Cindy. The workhorses just needed some new blood. A few colts trained for the next adventure in space.
I think it is a very bad mistake and move that we are not in the space race any longer! We will rue the day that our President made this choice.
Sussie. We already have. The loss of supremacy, technical advancement, pride and loss of exploration is gone.

I watched a clip about this on the news this morning! Kinda sad :-( I have mixed feelings about this decision.
Lenn - I have seen two shuttle launches, one from the ground and one from the air, awe-inspiring. I won't live long enough to see another great American space breakthrough. Will we ever have another Kennedy moment, either for the space program or for American pride?
Mike. If a Presidential candidate ran on a platform of doing nothing but putting our space program back on sound footing, I'd be inclined to vote for them.
One of my client's wanted me to make the trip with him to see this takeoff; glad I didn't as he did not make it back to the West Coast of Florida until 2 in the morning - traffic was bumper to bumper!
