Blog from your Xoom!

Hello Friends,

as you know, one of the biggest questions I have for new devices is... Can I get on AR with it...

In the case of the Xoom from motorola, the answer is yes!

I'm typing this on a Xoom, and it is working fine. That said, most of the editing, bold and such... not so well. This may change once flash support comes out.

And if you wonder, I am still unable to add a picture...

If you are in SoCal, there is full access to CRMLS.

For Zipforms, you still need mobile credentials. Sorry.

Mike, the Xoom, is the new tablet from Moto. it is running Andoid 3.0, also known as Honeycomb.

It is thought to be the first real contender to the ipad. Think of it as the X, on steroids, and with a far improved interface on the tablet size.

Hey Mike, Current price is $800, that unsubsidized. If you take a 2 year contract, you can have it for $600... Lowest monthly dataplan is $20 on Verizon... And yes, it is compatible with 4G, meaning, when they roll it out in your area, this thing will be blasing fast.

Shirley,

Well, unfortunately, no - IE will not run on Android, I would try the native browser, they are getting much better. I can use mine without problem.

The other flavor is to ask if they have a mobile site - most MLS systems do, and that you can access on almost any platform.

Drop me a note if you have more questions.

I saw it at Staples last weekend for $599 - the sales associate did not think it required the data plan. Also heard it would be available at Sam's Club for $539. Was fun to play with it - will wait for the next generation though before considering a serious purchase. Always like to see what bugs develop with the initial rollout.

Hey Gary, Good to see someone in my old zip... You may want a paid app for that baby - it is called Repligo - we use it to sign forms directly on the tablet - sans printing.

Mel, the version at Staples is Wifi only - and if you want that - it's fine, in that case, I would probably recommend an Ipad just for the additional apps available.
One of the huge bonuses we are looking at with this, is the fact that it will have access to 4g, which is cruising data at clsoe to fiber optic speeds...

Also, keep in mind, this is not really an initial rollout - the OS has been around for years, and upgrades happen OTA, so if they do want to change something serious, it is automatic for you.

Terkel,

Still enjoying the Xoom?  Have you written any contracts on it yet?  What have you been using it for? I am thinking of picking one up.

Dave,

I'm wondering why it took me so long... this changes everything.

we have signed contracts, shown homes, taken listings etc... and barely printing anything...

Jonathan, zip mobile works off a web site, it is not the single best interface you (honestly, it's about a horrible as it gets - especially when you show it to a software engineer)...

That said...

Here's what I do - I try my best to enter clients in on a computer... As many details as possible, the more you have, the less you have to fiddle through that interface...

Once you are on the road, and you are pulling things up, you can go through a form line by line, it's easy enough. When you think you have it all, view it, you can now see the form the way you are used to, and check that all is good.

At that point, you can email the form to yourself, then open it and sign it.

NOTE -  so far the only tool that will sign these forms is the SIGNificant tool - others such as sign my pad, expdf and repligo will all sign pdf's, ut not secure forms... Which is what you get from zip forms.
