I live in Juneau, Alaska, which is a town of about 30,000 in Southeast Alaska.  Juneau is the capital city for the state as well as a regional medical and shopping center.  The outlying areas are not connected to Juneau by a road system so travel is by boat or small plane.  That means groceries and other goods come in this way as well.   Juneau isn't connected to an outside road system either so you need to plan ahead sometimes.

Several years ago, my husband and I took our boat to Pelican.  Looking back, we should have brought watermelon for the whole town for the 4th of July picnic.  After all, the freight fee is 50 cents per pound!  We would have been town heroes for sure.

Another time visiting one of "my towns", I called ahead.  The small town of about 85 people apparently didn't have a decent delivery of bananas in quite some time.  Everybody was on a potassium craze.  Before jumping into the float plane, I made a quick stop at the grocery store and bought 25 pounds of bananas.  Another time I made a special delivery of feminine protection products since a barge was late!  That was an interesting shopping trip for sure.  That checker sure looked confused.

The latest request was for a pacifier.  Those accustomed to being able to drive to the store might not understand the urgency of a teething child and no pacifier in sight.  To this young mother the quest for a pacifier was critical.  For me, it was five minutes in the store and a quick stop at the airport.

This just goes to show how the little things can mean so much to our clients.  If they think of me during times like this, I hope they remember me when they want to buy or sell real estate!

Debbie, It will definitely set you apart from some others. I suggest that you keep in touch with these people - they made a request of you which didn't take much of your time. Asking them for referrals wouldn't take much of their time either...

Phillip - Thanks for the reminder.  I'm going to call her and let her know the binkie is where it needs to be, and ask for the referral.
