Delaware County's largest township , Upper Darby, has announced a fee increase for rental landlords and the outrage can be heard loud and clear.

More than a dozen landowners who have rental units incame to the Upper Darby Council meeting last week to express their dissatisfaction at the Jan. 19, council  meeting where  Ordinance 2992, calling for changes to the township real property maintenance code, was approved.

The new ordinance increases annual licensing fees - in some cases doubling the fees paid in previous years. For a single-family dwelling, the license fee increased 100% from $65 to $130. For a two-family dwelling, license fees increased from $85 to $150 annually - more than a 76 percent increase. The base fee for apartments and dwellings with more than two units increased from $45 to $65 per year for the first unit, but the fee for each additional unit remained at $20. Of the 32,000 properties in the township, about 4,400 are rentals.

That's a significant increase for Delaware County Janice...any chance of getting it repealed?

It is a big increase and I don't know what will happen. There are a lot of vocal landlords, i.e. voters so we will see what happens.
