A Rainy Day is A Great Time to Look at Houses

umbrellaIt is nice to have a nice sunny day to take a buyer out to look at houses.  Everything looks better on a sunny day.  Buyers are more optimistic.  And it sure makes it easier to look around outside, not to mention opening that lock box!

Yesterday, we had a very rainy day here in Canton MA.  I had a client scheduled to see several places.  Well, one of them that we went into (a vacant property) we opened the door to the basement and heard what sounded like a waterfall running into the basement.  In fact, I first thought maybe there was a shower running somewhere but sure enough, it was water from the rain, flowing into the basement.  My buyer promptly crossed that house off the list.  There were other concerns she had but the waterfall in the basement sealed the deal.  (And do not worry, I did advise the listing agent about the situation.)

So, do not let the rain deter you if you are looking to buy a home in Canton MA, buy a home in Milton MA or a surrounding community, it sometimes will work to your advantage!

Christine,

That is so true!  I have shared that same sentiment with buyers many days when we were going out in the rain.

I'd much rather see the worse case scenario BEFORE my clients buy.

All the best, Michelle

Yes, a great time.  I've seen quite a bit of issues during the rain.  Also snow another great time to tour. Homes that have great insulation in the atttic will have snow on their roofs, while the other homes will have it gone becaue of little or no insulation in the roof and the hot air escaping.

Isn't that ironic that they were actually fortunate to see that house at that time!?

Yikes! That's not the kind of water feature you want to see! As a seller's agent, a rainy day is when I bring the door mats with me to show the house.

It is isn't it? I have discovered a lot about homes by looking at them in the rain.  But, nonetheless it is difficult to get some people out in the rain.  Great blog!

Yes, that is lucky and I can see it happening.  I also think it's good for an inspector to visit while it's raining.  We had a home where we were refinishing the floors, but there was a small leak from the roof the inspector didn't catch as it was sunny that day.

Christine, Although a little bit of a hassle, rain is a PERFECT time to view homes, and we always hope for a good rain when our buyer's are having a home inspection done :)

Michelle....definitely better to find out those problems BEFORE buying!

Carla....snow can also provide good opportunities, although sometimes it hides things too.

Brenda....yes, they were quite fortunate.

Nina....definitely not the appealing kind of water feature!

Tni....it is difficult to drag people out in a rain storm but it can be to their advantage.

Debbie....yes, also a good time for an inspection too!

Liz & Bill....the little bit of hassle can be well worth it.
