Woo Hoo! Spring Run Off is Starting!

While these photos may not seem like something to get excited about, I am excited. That's because I can hear the level of water running through the creek bed, and that says that the Spring run off has started! And that is very exciting, especially since we were dusted with a light snow overnight yet again.

Judy, we got another half inch of snow yesterday. Drat.  But, it is almost March 1st (my birthday), and winter doesn't stand much of a chance after that with the day's lengthening.

So, I know how excited you are!

Hi Ron - My reaction exactly this morning. But you're right, it's getting warmer and snow has less staying power.

Happy Birthday to you!  I'm a March baby, too - March 9. Clinking glasses with you now!

More opinions than you want to hear about.

In the upper midwest, we need the runoff to begin slowly with lots of cold nights to slow it down.  The rivers are still high from last fall's heavy rains which also left the ground saturated.  Many cities have been filling sandbags and storing them for deployment in the next few weeks.  Looks like there's no way to avoid a FEMA spring around here.

Yes, it is exciting.  Soon we will see green again.  I can see it in a few patches.

I'm happy to hear that you are seeing signs of spring in your neck of the woods. We got more snow here again and spring is not in the air here. But, I'm still hoping for an early one. Nice pictures too.

Hi Mike - Wow, I really hope you'll have a controlled runoff and won't actually need those sandbags! We want Spring, not destruction. Best of luck!

Hi Debbie - I've never been so excited to see tiny little patches of lawn emerging from beneath the snow! Even this morning, once it warmed up a bit, the first thing that's melted is the dusting of snow from last night, so those bits of lawn are visible again. Yay!

Hi Donna - I know that Toronto stays cold a bit longer. I have some very hardy cousins who live there. I hope you start to see a bit of a warming trend soon. Glad you like my photos!

Hi Steve - Yes!!  I'm sitting here, looking at my deck, from which all the snow is now gone. And the sun is shining. Life is good. And Spring is coming!

HI Ginny - It's been incredible here as well today. Lightning, thunder and torrential rains. However, a bit more of the lawn is now visible so I'm not going to compain!
