Coming from an architecture background, there is often a debate on the terms "modern" versus "contemporary". "Modern", as I would interpret it, is an innovative design concept which marks a period relevant of our time.
You may or may not agree that:
- Classic modern design will be associated with the period in the mid-20th century.
- Progressive modern will be associated with a home which embodies the future.
- A contemporary home could mean a decor which is newer and not traditional.
- A modern floor plan would appeal to modern living with simple uncomplicated forms, clean lines, open plan and natural light.
- Traditional styled homes can have comtemporary floor plan.
I have had occasions when working with buyers, where the terms contemporary and modern were often thrown around. It's important to pin down how each buyer define these terms when purchasing a home.
