One of my favorite charities is a local one. It's NVAL and stands for the Northern Virginia Animal League. When I was faced with three feral kittens on my doorstep, and no clue what to do with them, this was the only organization that had been willing to help. They paid to have the kiittens, as well as Mom and Dad fixed, and I reimbursed them with a tax deductible donation to their charity.
After fixing the kittens and bringing them into my home, the point of contact for NVAL came to my home numerous times with deworming meds, distemper shots and other things to get the kitties healthy. Having already had two cats, and growing our cat household by three, I will never forget their willingness to chip in and help at their very low discounted rate with a local vet. That made keeping the cats very affordable.
To say thank you, and help others who may not even have the money to fix a feral kitten, or feral cat themselves, I routinely donate enough to fix a couple strays to NVAL. This past week, I paid to fix two feral cats.
It feels good to know you're helping an out of control animal population. And that's not all NVAL does. They take in young kittens, or domesticated abandoned cats and give them a foster home until they can find an adoptive home for them. I imagine that some of my donations have gone toward food, bedding and cat litter in the past. If you want to make a donation, click the link above for mailing address and information.
