Matching pets with patriots

It just became much easier for our military personnel — active, reserve, retired, or veterans from any branch of the United States military — to adopt pets in San Diego County through a countywide partnership between Pets for Patriots, the Rancho Coastal Humane Society, and the San Diego County Department of Animal Services.

Pets for Patriots will oversee the program and has also pledged financial support for those adopting pets. Pets available through the program are dogs and cats at least two years of age, or other special-needs pets.

Any military personnel interested in providing a forever home for a pet, and reaping the unconditional love and companionship that they provide, should apply with Pets for Patriots. Once you are approved, you can get your pet from any of these four animal shelters:

• San Diego Central, 5480 Gaines Street, San Diego
• San Dieco North, 2481 Palomar Airport Road, Carlsbad
• San Diego South, 5821 Sweetwater Road, Bonita
• Rancho Coastal Humane Society, 389 Requeza Street, Encinitas
