Pay It Forward – Please Don’t Take My Lockbox!
The conversation went something like this---
The voice on the other end of the phone asked, “Are you Keller Williams?” (Something I have been asked before)
“No,” I replied. “But I am a REALTOR® with Keller Williams.”
“Well I am looking for the listing agent for the property at 123 Easy Street. I called a Keller Williams office since it is listed with Keller Williams and all they would tell me is that this home is not listed through their office.”
“I am sitting in front of my computer. Would you like me to look it up for you?”
“Oh, yes, please if you would. That would be so helpful!”
I looked up the property and gave the caller all of the listing agent’s information—name, three phone numbers and an e-mail address.
It was only then that she said she was working for a bank that was foreclosing on the property and she was going to be changing locks on the house. She wanted to give the agent an opportunity to get her lockbox off before she destroyed it removing it.
This has happened to me---only once and I am sure it has happened to many of you. I was simply amazed. I told her what a nice thing that was because lockboxes are expensive. She said she always makes an effort.
She thanked me repeatedly and said I was so helpful that she was going to hold onto my information for when she needed help again. (Yippee!!) That part was not such welcomed news, but I am glad I was able to help a fellow human being and in the process help a fellow REALTOR!
I paid it forward by preventing another lockbox fatality!
