Are you looking for tiles for your bathroom in Westchester NY or Stamford CT? We know it sometimes feels a bit overwhelming but hopefully this video will help give you a quick overview and get your creative juices flowing.
There are many options for bathrooms - from simple to decorative. I usually first try to scope out how large the bathroom is. If it's small, I generaly like to use lighter colors as this makes the space look larger. I then try to understand the overall look a customer wants - do they want a natural stone look (which is very stylish nowadays especially in Westchester NY) or more of a shiny/glossy look. Both looks can be achieved via natural stone or ceramic/porcelain, so then it comes down to budget (natural stone costs more) and maintenance (porcelain/ceramic are easier to clean and require less maintenance throughout the years).
We then try to find a tile we like - colorwise, texture-wise and shape. Usually I prefer to use the same tile on floor and wall, but will often vary the size for visual appeal. I will usually do a larger tile on the floor and smaller on the wall. The larger size on the floor makes the space look larger, the smaller tile on the wall just looks right and often works better given all the turns and outlets on the walls. If we are putting tile on the shower floor, we need to do smaller tiles (e.g. 2 x 2 or 1 x 1 mosaics) so that the water in the shower will properly drain. But, again, I usually use same tile and just alter the size.
Then, we may look to get a bit fancier with layout. We can lay the tile on the floor in a diamond lay - this looks visually stunning and makes the space look larger. (But, it does not work well in very tiny spaces as there isn't enough room for the tiles to sit properly). I also love bricklay which is very stylish. On the walls, if you have a rectangular tile, you can do subway tiles in a brick lay which looks really cool.
I then seek to explore if we want to jazz it up a bit with a border (or listello). The borders are what make bathroom tiles really fun. The borders are eye candy and make the place look special. Some of the natural stone ones are so pretty and never go out of style. Or, you can jazz it up with glass to add to some color. The possibilities are endless. But, whatever you do, don't go overboard. Remember that less is more and you'll be living with this bathroom for a long time (and eventually you may sell your home).
