With the aging of our population there is increased demand for facilities to meet their needs.  One such facility is Livingston Hills in the town of Livingston in Columbia county.

This facility is certified for 120 residents and accepts both Medicaid and Medicare.  Here are the services available :

  • Respite Care - as described in their brochure, this type of care gives family members a break from daily care-giving.  And we all know how important it is for the caregiver to take a break.

  •  Rehabilitative Services- I have had elderly friends who transitioned here from the hospital, for therapy, before getting the okay to return home.

  •  Alzheimer's Care.  Providing care for your loved one at home can be difficult and stressful, so, it is good to know this service is available.   Here your loved one would be cared for by staff specially trained to provide services that ensure physical, emotional and social well being.

  • Long Term Care.  There may come a point when a family member can no longer provide for the care-giving needs. This center provides skilled care on a long-term basis and allows visitation any day of the week.

To check out a facility for a family member please remember there are the following resources provided by the Federal and State governments:

You can contact the center by calling 518-851-3041  or writing to:  Livingston Hills 2781 RT. 9 Box 95 - Livingston. NY 12541

This appears to be a facility which would offer much to the senior population.

Jennifer, locating a place for a senior family member with Alzheimers is so hard- this information will likely help many who need a safe environment.  It looks quite nice- great info.

Hi jennifer: I work with the senior population and these places are very popular on Long Island NY. When a senior's home becomes too much for them to care for..... I find homes like this one for them to live in... although, it's difficult for them. These places looks more like a hotel... I'm glad that someone thought of places like this one so that the senior population can have  option for their future....

Jennifer -- thanks for your comment on my grandmothers piece. This looks like a lovely facility. All of us should become familiar with such facilities in our areas. I have had many clients in need of a move and I was able to ease the transition for them because I had an elderly mother who lived in assisted living near us for 7 years. Luckily, also a lovely facility.

Jennifer- How interesting to drop in after being absent for a while to read this post. A few weeks ago I listed a small condo in a community for adults of 55+ years. The active older adults who will occupy these condos are those who will ultimately move into the type of homes you are writing about.

As we live longer and our population ages,it is appropriate that  systems be in place to accomodate changing lifestyles.

Hi Jennifer.  I just listed a condo located in a 55+ locale.  More housing for the senior popluation is certainly something affecting us everywhere.  I plan to get my senior designation for the purpose being able to assist.... it's my desire that our agents would follow me in this.

This place sounds well-thought out in planning with so many resources... a good example.

George -I don't think you are anywhere near checking in to one of these facilities.  It is good to see more and more of these facilities springing up.

Donna -Working with seniors can be rewarding, they have so much to share,  I love hearing their stories.  I am glad there are more choices in facilities and that some of the services are now  more individual.

Ann - You are right, as agents we need to know where these places are and what they offer; you can't imagine the inquires I have received because I write about the subject.

Cynthia - This is a very important topic which affects every family at some point.  As real estate agents people turn to us for information.

Eloise- I think in the next few years there will be a need to speed up the building of such facilities because of the aging population.

Bill & Barbara - I know many families who are happy it is around.

Diana - Congratulation on your listing.  The SRES course is really helpful and I recommend it to anyone who wishes to work with seniors.
