Movie ICON Jane Russell has Died * Bet you did not KNOW this about her!

By
Property Manager with Gibson Management Group, Ltd.

Although you may know her as one of the 3 girlfriends in Gentlemen Prefer Blonds and the 1950s sex symbol who was discovered by Howard Hughes when he was casting for his  movie, The Outlaw, and for whom Hughes actually designed the bra she wore in the movie  * Jane Russell was a proponant and advocate for adoption.

When she and her first husband could not have children, she adopted 3 children * a daughter and 2 sons.  During the process she found the paperwork daunting and the procedures took way too long.  She testified before Congress on the inadequacies of the process and founded the World International Adoption Fund.

So * before their foreign baby adoptions were made famous by Angelina and Madona * Jane Russell was working to make them possible for everyone.

GENTLEMEN PREFER BLONDES

Jane Russell died in her home in Santa Maria, CA at the age of 89.

Joan Crawford was the first movie star I remember who adopted children * then Bette Davis * so stars adopting is not new * just the notoriety of the event.

You are correct, that was a fact that I was unaware of. I am sure many parents of adopted children are very grateful.

Wallace - did not know that about her, thanks for sharing. Yet another one that I grew up with gone. Well, ok, she was more my dad's generation, but I know she was one of his favorites.
