So here I am with surviving my 'Serengeti'.
Downloading the book was a bit of a challenge, and it was easier to take the quiz. 21 questions - answered to best possible knowledge of who I am and how would I act in some situations.
I was surprised to see the final outcome.
This is what I received after the quiz...
Enterprising means showing initiative, a willingness to undertake new projects, and a strong desire for success and achievement—all qualities that support the role of the entrepreneur. Like the ... (well, see it in the end of this post)
If you are an enterprising person, you’ll see the following characteristics in yourself:
The ability to “think outside the box” when facing difficult problems and developing solutions. (Yes - I do think outside the box! At times, I don't even see the box!!!)
A dedication to advancing both yourself and your organization through a clear mission, while fostering a culture that supports and encourages imaginative and creative solutions. (Yes, this is true, too!)
The determination to succeed, which also lends itself to another important trait for enterprising individuals: self-confidence. (true, to an extent - recently, I am little shaken up by circumstances)
The tendency to spend a lot of time working alone—something that’s paramount to business success. This emphasizes entrepreneurs’ understanding of sacrifice, and how short-term hard work will pay off with long-term rewards. (So true! Is that the reason I am addicted to ActiveRain and write posts in the middle of the night?
Entrepreneurs have a strong desire to lead rather than follow; they seek out opportunities that specifically provide a great deal of autonomy. (true again. I moved from India to US - an opportunity I wanted to capitalize on - and I was successful in my IT career).
They seek out change, rather than fearing it. (In 2003, another major change - from a 9-to-5 job to a career in Real Estate! And I wasn't getting young, BTW)
Entrepreneurs and enterprising individuals always display a willingness to go against the crowd and stand above. They take advantage of difficult situations, and don’t allow them to become burdens. (Always willing to do something different and have succeded in difficult times most of the time. Self-dependent, so far.)
As with any skill, there are a number of pitfalls to avoid:
Failing to evaluate and analyze the potential risks involved and developing a plan to address them early on. (been there - done that and have tasted a major life-changing failure!)
Failing to constantly communicate with others involved, ensuring they understand what is required of them, they have the necessary resources/skills, and are empowered and authorized to complete the tasks for which they are being held accountable. (the first part is very true - that led me to a major life changing failure. Didn't quiet get the second part, though.)
Enterprising people understand exactly what to do when opportunity knocks. (And I thought every one knew about it. I remember taking decision to migrate to US - within few hours! Opportuniy was knocking then and here I am!)
So, What Animal Am I?
By now, you have read many posts that described the same characterestics. Margaret Rome's, to be very precise.
Yes, you guessed it right - it's Crocodile.
Like the crocodile, enterprising people possess the energy, creativity, and ambition required to see the possibilities in the future that others cannot see.
