Dear Home Seller,

Congratulations on your decision to move to another house. Now that we have spent time creating (discovering) your vision of your new house, it is now time to prepare your current house for the market.

First, we must differentiate "House" from "Home" . . . There's more than mere semantics at play here. Your "House" is that thing we're going to sell . . . Your "Home" is that place (wherever it may be) where your family gathers and plays and loves and sleeps . . . and roosts when the day is done.

You are probably not going to like some (or any) of the things we REALTORS and Stagers are going to ask you to do to prepare your home for the market. We are going to move your furniture to odd and uncomfortable places and angles . . . ask you to completely "declutter" and mostly "depersonalize" the decor . . . Perhaps encourage some room color changes (painting) . . . and push you to go ahead and complete those lingering needed repairs you've known about for the past few years but have never gotten around to.

When we're done "staging" your house, you're probably not going to like the changes because it will no longer feel like HOME.

This is a necessary component of the home selling process.

There's a karmic issue with some folks who have decided to sell their house. The underlying root cause of this issue has to do with the fact that at some point after moving INTO the house, life happened and the house owner has through the years PERSONALIZED the house to become their HOME!

Preparing a house for sale requires the sellers to emotionally detach their "home" from  the house.

When you sell a house, you take your home with you to the next place. the home is where your heart and family are . . . the house is the structure (container) that provided shelter for you while there.

SO . . . When you put your house on the market for sale, You may still OWN the house but it's time to accept that the house is no longer your HOME.

That house is soon to be someone else's . . . it's time to move on.

Staging is a necessary evil to get that karmic energy in check . . . In a twisted way, that's what sells houses :-)

Give it a try . . . I think you'll find the whole process to be smoother and gentler . . . Just call your House Selling therapist (Your local REALTOR.

Just sayin'

Best,

b

Barry, well stated! It's the one thing we need to make sellers understand! Many times they don't want to hear what we have to say, but if we can get by the 'home' part, we're half way there!

Good morning Bill. Great thoughts on selling. How often to sellers try and add that emotional tag to the price. Buyers don't care if grandpa built the shed, cut the emotional tie and sell the "house" so you can find a new home.
