Kent. I'm sure that's Google's plan too. Mine too. My fingers are crossed.
I think Google is always changing, and sometimes they even let us know. But you're right, Lenn: quality content is the major indicator of ranking high in SEO.
Nice post Lenn, thanks for keeping us informed. And since when are not an "expert"? HA!
Jeremy. You're right. They are always changing, but this is major.
April. The best thing I know is that I know that I don't know a lot of what I wished I knew.
Hi Lenn
Very interesting glad I never shelled out the big buck to a so called SEO expert just to have Google change it all. I am so happy here in the Rain..........Brad
Brad. Mmmm. Makes you wonder just what makes and "SEO expert" anyway.
I like the "research, reports, and analysis" part. Thanks, Lenn!
Lenn--Great post and very interesting discussion because of it. I will be very interested in you response to Jan #74. We sometimes post to our WP blog and then move it over to AR. Link to our blogs on our websites. Does Google consider this duplicate? Do you only post here on AR?
Judy. Thanks. IMO, Google has heavily favored sites for universities, etc. for years. Scholarly reports etc. will rank highly even with few back links.
Jan. Does Google consider publishing to more than one blog site duplication? Or, do they weigh the original higher. Or, does Google punish diplicate content for things like doorway sites or skimmers who take huge amounts of published content and republish it on their site/blog??
Google clearly indicated that they will demote the national listing sites that have little content.
My IDX is not indexed. In fact, many of the IDX sites that can be indexed violate a patent and one of these days. . . .
Pat. I can't answer about what Google thinks. That's above my pay grade. What I think is that I think that Google gives more weight to the post that was published first. I haven't seen any indication that Google is going to punish sites that syndicate content like the AR outside web sites or Reblogs. But, I'm no expert.
I post here, on RealTown and on my own web site(s). Lots of them.
I'm all for the changes! keeps those of us trying to build quality sites on our toes :)
Changes.... I haven't got it figured out in the first place yet!
Dear Lenn,
Thank you for keeping up with this stuff. It is certainly nice of you to put it into plain English.
Donal. We have to do that, changes or not.
Brenda and Ron. Indeed. Who can?
Dorte. Good point, Optomization is like a foreign language.
I'm eager to see the effects of this new change! Hopefully it will help us have more impact!
Sylvie. I would hope so. I suspect that we're too small for Google to notice.
It seems that the directory sites like zilow, homes.com, realestate.com etc. still dominate the Jacksonville sites which have next to nothing in terms of content. Been battling that for years.
Lucien. They have a ton of backlinks, which still work.
Well then Lenn so enlighten us. I will call you over the weekend. Had a family emergency today. Thanks
This is just one of many changes Google will be making.
Sure John. Anytime.
Dennis & Tam. Indeed. I've seen a change in my backlinks too.
