Onward

I'm moving on to do other things. I've got a number of things to wrap up before I go, but from now on Jonathan, Bob, and Nicole will be around to help you with ActiveRain. I'll still be available to talk about blogging, networking, and sales.

A terrific journey.
We've come a long way from when Matt and Ben and I first set this community growing in Late May/Early June 2006. The goals I set are being fulfilled. We now have a community of almost 50,000 real estate professionals who are communicating with each other on almost a daily basis. Working as a community many members, are getting more out of their businesses than ever before. They are also offering their customers a better value proposition. Participants in this community are far better resources for customers because of the knowledge and connections developed here.

Being a part of this community has made us all better and I have no one to thank more than those members who have contributed to the foundations and growth of this community. This is your network. You've brought it here, and I thank you all for doing so.

Some thoughts:

Take advantage of The Network.
I very much appreciate all the members who have called emailed or written me regularly telling me about the wealth of knowledge they've acquired in their work here. This is a terrific resource and I encourage all of you to take advantage of it.

Technology has a tremendous impact on marketing. Right now blogging and social networking are two important aspects of that. Get your voice out there with blogging, and continue to develop connections with home shoppers, and your colleagues. Participate, and enjoy yourself, if you're not having fun then something's not right.

A reminder about competition.
ActiveRain thrives on the competitive spirit. Please enjoy the interactions with your competitors. For individual sales persons the largest obstacles to sales aren't other sales people, but rather the customer's desire not to make a change, and your own personal limitations. By learning with your fellow sales people you'll be able to improve in so many ways that it's worth embracing the opportunity.

Stay out of trouble.
As a a part of this industry you are also required to work within a legal framework that is industry specific. U.S. wide you will have fair housing and anti-trust among other things to be careful of. The web has a permanence to it, what you do will stick, so be sure to know your legal obligations and responsibilities.

Be nice to the new person.
Remember at this early stage there are going to be a lot of people who are trying to figure it out. We were all new once. It takes time to adjust so please treat the new comers with kindness. Ultimately how you treat others will reflect on you.

Hi Caleb, I never had to opportunity to meet with you as many of the OLD TIMERS have. They will love that particular description but many of them are old enough to be your parents.LOL That doen't guarantee you would have all their love but you do seem to have earned it, none the less.

I sincerely felt that you were the "spirit" behind the Rain. You were always fairminded and your being here gave me (and I am sure many others) a feeling of comfort. (Especially as we both agree about helping new people)

You're all making this so hard :). These comments, calls and emails are amazing. I don't think I can point to anything like this ever happening in my life before.

Thank you all so much. There is truly an amazing community of people here and so much to grow with. I am very fortunate to of had this opportunity. I really have learned a lot from all of you. I do not intend to be totally gone. Jonathan has left me with an open invitation for return. Anyways it's like I said to TLW, you can still call me, it just means if it's about AR, I won't be able to do anything about it :).

Caleb: This must have been the hardest post you ever had to write.

Knowing how much AR must have been your "baby", ONWARD could not have been easy to write, no matter how incredible your future opportunities are.

AR will always be a part of you, but I do sense that you are happiest as a creator, or as an innovator. In that sense, your job at AR is over, since this network has taken on a life of its own. I have always liked the word originator that we use in the mortgage business...you are one of the originators of the world, and that is something so rare and so special. How could you not take advantage of this gift?

I feel certain you are off to originate something else because that is the arena where your belong. Best wishes from all of your AR family as you go off once again, to change the world.

Hello Caleb and congratulations on the NEW! Change is good because change is growth! No matter how much we like our Kindergarten Teacher, we just cannot keep our legs folded sitting in that class.... we grow, so we move!

Though i haven't commented much, i've always read what you wrote, respected who you were, and honored what you've and what you stood for. It's my prayer that you'd adapt to the new without hindrances and allow the adjustments you were designed for. I pray that as you emerge and bond with those that are destined to influence your predetermined future, you'd quickly recognize the greater dimension you were chosen for. Caleb - Curious - Is it a coincidence that your departure from ActiveRain comes on the heels of the news of the suit filed against Move? Was this a move to distance yourself from what might follow in the wake of the suit? Am I the only one here wondering if there is more to the story about what is really going on behind the scenes here? And where is Dustin? I'm sure he may be unable to comment about the suit or Caleb''s departure, but I'd be curious to hear his thoughts about what is going on too. Caleb - your talent and insight will take you far as you move forward.
