You're VLOGGING now! But are you doing it right?
Most of us have started video blogging and using services such as YouTube to post our videos for free. ActiveRain has set up contests to motivate it's users to take advantage of this growing advertising tool that is internet video. Many blog posts have been made to help with what content to produce when making Real Estate related videos. These videos will undoubtedly help improve your visability on the internet but, like websites such as Facebook and Twitter, they also have the possibility of hurting your business if you don't do it the right way. Don't make simple mistakes when doing video.
1. Account Name - When setting up an account make sure you've got a friendly username (preferably real estate related). Uploading videos with your 'CatKiller82' account will be sure to show up and scare viewers. If you create an account with good keywords/ad words you'll be able to produce better rankings through Google.
2. Personal Videos - Don't upload personal videos to the same account that you've got your business videos on. Make a new account for videos of your drunken Canadian cousins birthday or your office Christmas party. Some fun, non real estate-related videos CAN be OK in certain circumstances, showing that you've got an actual personality and are unique to other agents/brokers but it can be risky and you want to make sure there is nothing that would offend potential clients.
3. Recent Activity - Likes / Comments / Favorites - Others can see the comments you make on videos, what you videos you've been watching, etc. Don't be watching any racy or vulgar type videos, this information will be made public and hurt your business.
4. Subscriptions / Friends - Your subscriptions and friends are also made public through free video services. Don't subscribe to channels that have videos of bad material. A lot of users will request friendship over these free video service websites and usually it seems like a good idea to get as many friends and subscribers as possible to get your business across to the widest audience BUT you should be careful that these 'friends' are not users just trying to spam and advertise their own service, a service that is offensive to your potential clients.
5. Real Estate Law - Just like with blogs, websites, MLS, etc., your videos must comply with Real Estate law. Sometimes you get in front of a video camera and are so nervous or shy that you aren't careful with the words you spit out. Don't make this mistake or you could be facing some real legal troubles.
A lot of these mistakes can be avoided by changing privacy settings on YouTube or other services BUT default settings make almost all of your activity public.
