A Token of Consideration to the Clients . . . Gifts for a Closing

As agents we appreciate the opportunity to work with buyers and help them with their purchases. We all may or may not offer some type of token at the end of the transaction to wish them well with their new home.

As I work with a client and get to know and understand their positions, I gather the information I need to make that little token something they will appreciate and will help them to remember me to their friends and family.

As each client is different usually each gift is likewise.

For me, all all closings end with me making a donation to both the Children's Miracle Network and the Susan G Komen Foundation in the names of those clients.

At the final walk through, I will usually have a gift with their first house warming card to give them before we leave to the lawyer's office.

  • I have given many a crystal vase or candy dish to clients.
  • For the buyers that will need to do a bit of work, I present a gift card to either Lowes or Home Depot
  • If the home was a bit larger the new owners may get a special table cloth with napkins from the Middle East. I have a friend that travels back and forth to that area regularly and have even had special colored purchases made. The largest being for a custom dining room table, 14 feet long that was being purchased along with the 5500 square foot home.
  • To the people that refer clients to me, I may also make a similar donation to the funds, and to the friends from my gold club, they can count on a dozen golf balls of their choice

What ever it might be, I appreciate the clients that I service, and the friends that send them my way.

The gifts and donations are what I consider a necessary part of doing business and I do believe that the extra bit of thoughtfulness will bring back a reward far greater than the cost.

Clients do not expect the tokens and that makes me feel even better when they read my card and open the gift.

I would like to think that I am doing my part to let people know that we in real estate are not all about the money. We do care about the people we are trying to help.

When we give back even a little and it is unexpected, we demonstrate to our clients that we care.

I still have a supply of vases and tablecloths available to any potential clients that may get to read this. It would not be considered a bribe, just a way of saying thanks.

Ed, I would love a box of golf balls:)  I am sure the biggest gift to your clients is having the pleasure of working with you.

Good morning Ed;  I love it when the client gives ME a gift.  I also try to give something special.  Each is different, but all are special.

Good morning Ed, I love giving gifts to clients, but it is difficult to find just the right thing.  Each one is different and I like to have the gifts mean something special.   I hate it when I wait to the last minute...then have to scramble to get it in time for closing.  Excellent post!

Ed, a donation to those charities is definitely something special. Both are such worthy causes and can use all the donations they can get.

Nice touch Ed.  That is one of things about doing real estate business in the States, you attend the closings.  It does lend an opportune time to present your client with something. Up here it is much different.

This reminds me that I once dontated a sheep in my daughter's honor for a graduation gift....you'd have to know her to realize she loved it.

Ed -  thank you for being one of thousands of us who donate to the RE/MAX causes.  I know my Sellers appreciate the accumulated effect as do the many who benefit from these very worthwhile charities.

Hi Ellie, tell me the brand, you gave away your commission, I can get you something

Ken, I've received gifts as well as free lunches and invitations to their house warming parties

Barbara X2, listening to them throughout the process allows something special to be given. Thanks for stopping, both times

Craig, I've been doing it for so many years now it isn't noticed any more

Hey guys, I usually get them their gift at the walk through. Never thought of what I would do if we didn't close.

Karen, I can think of a few times when a donated animal would have been appreciated, although not used the same way

Susan, it's now second nature. Thanks for stopping

I usually give a gift card of some kind . . . Lowes or Home Depot for buyers of an older home, restaurant cards for older couples who need no repairs.  I try to match the gift to the situation.

Ed you are the only one that I have heard of that makes a donation to an organization like Children's Miracle Network and the Susan G Komen Foundation.  But it is something that more of use should think about doing.

Hey Ed, I might come buy a house from you for a couple of dozen Titleist Pro IV.  Or maybe a box or two of the Dixon Fire.
