blogrush screen shot I'd love your help in sorting this whole BlogRush thing out. There has been much written lately about this latest widget to hit our blogosphere. Many people here on Active Rain have voice their concern with driving traffic away from their site and questioning whether it's a great idea or not.

I like to keep an open mind since so many new tools and enhancements to blogging come to my attention daily. I have installed this widget on my Active Rain blog and my thought was that there are already 49,625 other member sites my visitors can easily check out so if I can pick up some extra traffic what's the harm.

On the flip side Teri Lussier wrote a post, What's the Rush? Or, why I'll get my hits the old-fashioned way- I'll earn them., saying why she wouldn't be installing it on her site - no how, no way!! Teri raised some great points and it got me thinking (So thank you Teri - I love looking at things from the other side)

Now let me be clear - I am with Teri when it comes to my outside blog - I proceed with changes and any additions with the utmost caution and definitely take a wait and see attitude. I don't see adding it on that blog for now.

So after reading Teri's article earlier today I was pondering how I feel about BlogRush - when I came across this article by Yaro Starak's author of the Entrepreneurs Journey (with over 5000 subscribed readers) today. He had written an in-depth article on Blogrush and his actual stats lending to a more transparent view of how effect it is right now. If this topic interests you I would highly recommend you read his article,  My BlogRush Stats - Can John Reese Make This Work?

The surprise for me is that with Statak having over 11,000 impressions he only had 27 clicks through. Wow to me that seemed like a shockingly low click through rate. Then I had to think about my own experience. I have clicked on by own BlogRush a couple of times but usually it's when I see an article from someone I know already here on Active Rain - so for me it's more like another Active Rain dashboard which contains some of our outside blogs. So I believe people will either be happy with 27 more clicks than they had before (which was FREE) or they will decide that the risks of diverting people away is not worth such a small return.

You might find this article by Yaro Starak's on BlogRush interesting as well: BlogRush - Will It Increase Your Blog Traffic?

For me the verdict is still out but the results are underwhelming to say the least. So what's your experience so far?  Are you part of the BlogRush or ready for the whole idea to take a BlogFlush?

If you don't have the latest widget, BlogRush and want it you can click here to get it your BlogRush Widget

P.S. I wrote this last night before my internet connection went down and woke up this morning to this in my email from John Reece owner of BlogRush had a LONG email that starts..."ARE YOU READY?  Because *everything* is about to change.  Forget everything else up until now...PREPARE FOR *BIG* CHANGES"... so I went to check it out and here' s what I found..

blog rush site under construction

...looks like they are working hard to keep the Rush from doing a Flush!!!!

You know, I've not paid one bit of attention to BlogRush, guess I should go check it out and form an opinion.  Me personally, I don't even see widgets anymore-there are so many of them everywhere, i've blocked them out-kinda like advertising.

Cyndee- It is just too much going on and it makes our blogs look too cluttered. I'd rather people click on my Vflyer listing roll widget. In fact I am going to upgrade it today to fit more listings. I just am doing 5 free ones right now, I am getting click throughs on that so I will spend my time building on that, after all, I want to sell my listings! Katerina

Cyndee, I love vflyers, especially the widgets. Ok blogrush. Give it some time, it was just launched. I added it but haven't check stat's. I do see activerain bloggers come up on it. So who knows, I'm not going after the activerain community on blogrush.

Maureen did a follow up post on it yesterday and she had a great suggestion. What if you could make it local. So anyone posting on Ann Arbor would see it and could click over to read other blogs. I know someone people are afraid you are sending them off your site, but really is someone in Florida going to click over to see a blog about Ann Arbor. NO, I don't think so. My .02

Missy Caulk- Ann Arbor Real Estate  Missy, I am actually very happy with the way the filters I could put on the blog are working so I'm not seeing local real estate blogs on my widget.

It will be interesting to see what they come out with - I'm still playing and learning myself. It's interesting to see what others are learning and thinking as well. I need to get more into Vflyers since my number of listings has increased dramatically.

If nothing else it's the eye of blogosphere storm for it's 15 minutes of fame at the least! (LOL)

Cyndee, I personally didn't rush to get BlogRush. I wanted to read about it more and find out (just like you) how others feel about this new widget. I am not that comfortable with a widget that can bring visitors to my blog, but at the same time can take away visitors from my blog.

interesting, but we don't generally 'rush' into anything - it is always good to wait and see how things turn out!

Cyndee,

I just want you to know I am still reading your post, and so far I am interested, of course, I am not a Realtor, so I try and see if any of this can work for me.

Thank you for this,

Tom Weiss

Cyndee thanks for the comment on my entry.  As I said there I was on Yaro Statak's blog yesterday but did not recognize his name in your comment

It will be interesting to see, I am glad I rushed into ActiveRain (90K+ points in invite points) and although I felt like BlogRush would not really work on RE blogs I am glad I have a sturdy base to "my pyramid"  at the beginning of this RSS experiment.  Only time will tell.

Tom - left you a message on the other post! If you're talking BRO - it's Great for mortgage professionals.

Cyndee-Thanks for  posting.. I'm kind of with Leigh.. everyday it seems as if there is a new widget or tool or video presentation..  One thing to keep in mind with all these little additions to your website is that Google penalizes you for having more then  100 links on your home page.. so I'm not sure having lots of widgets is a good thing

Cyndee - This is an excellent observation and I do have BlogRush on my blogs, but can't tell you what, if anything they have done for me or my blogs. I guess I will see what time will tell.

Do the vFlyer - it is cool!

Man, I'm old fashioned.  First I learn about the widget in your post, then I get a PhD in widgets from reading the comments.  Yay, Active Rain!  Thanks for the very useful post, Cyndee.

I'm in Leigh's court. I don't pay that much attention to them if there are too many on a blog - so cluttered. However, for my blog it's a mute point since WP.com doesn't allow java.

Mike - Glad to shed some light on it for you :-) Thanks for stopping by!

Elaine - The same will be true for my outside blog since it's word press - guess I shouldn't get to excited either (LOL)

Cyndee I love it!  Blog Rush or Blog Flush!  The verdict is still out for me just like many other members.  We keep getting emails "NEW CHANGES" blah blah blah.

I give it another week.  We will see :)

Cyndee,

Your clever title caught me on this one.  I tend to wait on new things to see if they work or not.  Thanks for being my guinea pig - please keep us updated on how this new toy works.

Cyndee a bunch of people on ActiveRain added the widget and then removed it but still show up in the feed on other blogs. If you have a WordPress.com blog and added the RSS you need to follow the instructions to remove that feed.  If you added the widget and then decided the widget was ugly so removed it from you need to remove your feed from BlogRush.

Thanks to blogger Amit Solomon who answered my question about how to do it on John Reeses Income.com blog.  I had looked and looked for it but could not see the instructions on how to remove BlogRush completely for people like Teri who put it on and then took it off but were still showing up in the feed on others blogs.

Here's how you remove your blog from BlogRush:

(Taken from the FAQ)

At this time, we are requiring that you send your request to support@blogrush.com with "Delete Blog" in the subject line, as well as a description of the blog(s) you would like deleted, and we'll manually delete your chosen blogs for you.
