So we all so much into being connected NOW that our phones fetch emails every 3 or 4 minutes. Sure it sounds great, but it can get REALLY annoying when a spam comes in or stupid reply all "ok" or a non important newsletter. So what then happens is you stop checking your contactly beeping phone.

So I decided to TURN OFF Email alerts on my phone!

I know there is a better solution for this, but this is my Hack that works pretty great. What I do is set up filters in my GMAIL (see video below) that will send VIP and special emails to my phone as a text message. So they are FAR less frequent, but this is stuff I want to get immediate.

 

I have filters for:

- Particular clients (especially if in the midst of a deal)

- Web leads, so I can decide whether to contact them immediately.

- All emails with a special code in the subject line. If you write to somebody and want their reply sent to your phone, put something like "yyy" or "cell" or something at the far end of the subject line. Then set up your gmail filter to route to your text if they reply to you.

 

Anybody have a better system? I am sure there is one out there

I too am forwarding all email account to gmail and using filters. So much of my mail goes to spam that I fear I am losing consumer contacts.

Sorry about that Cheryl, it is kinda technical. Maybe the video can help.

The point is if your phone is beeping every 5 minutes when you get a new email, it will start driving you crazy, or you will ignore it.

I suggest turning OFF email alerts on your phone, or setting them to alert you hourly.

 

And then if you use GMAIL, use their filters to find the important emails and forward them as a text message using the format:   703555122@txt.att.net (try it, if you have ATT, try emailing that address with your numbers in front and see what happens)

Vickie, how do you use the filters? Have you tried filtering certain clients to your phone as a text message?

Do you have your phone set to alert you to a new email every 1 or 5 minutes? I am looking for better ways.

Technology was suppose to support and simplfiy our lives, but we are running faster and faster in multiple directions to keep up with everything we can't live without.  Thank you for the suggestion on how to tame one part of the "help."
