Getting through a fire is terrifying enough right? But just because you surrive a fire does not completely mean that you are now out of harms way.  There are several health risks that involved after the after math of a serious fire and it is so important to address these issues immediately to aboid serious health complications in the future.

Did you know that when materials do not burn up completely, a black residue made up of impure carbon particles is left behind?  Executive Restoration would like to inform others that this is called soot and you are bound to have quite a bit of it laying around after a fire is experienced.  Soot does more than causes stains and messes.  Soot poses a threat to your respiratory system.  These particles are small enough to make it through your respiratory system and eventually enter into your blood stream.  Once they have entered into your blood stream, they will be carried into different tissues through out your body, and can accumulate until they cause complications such as aggravated asthma, pneumonia, emphysema, birth defects and perhaps can even cause certain kinds of cancer.

Smoke particles are much smaller than other toxins we often breath in.  Did you know that the human bronchial system is designed to filter out toxins in the 10+micron range, allowing them to be flushed out through the digestive system.  Smoke however, is small enough and cause issues with the respiratory system.  At their worst, small particles can cause enough damage to diminish lung capacity.

So, smoke and soot can hide within the surfaces and the very structure of your home.  Smoke can also effect your air supply system by entering your air vents and returns and cause your returns and vent to become polluted so after a smoke damge to your home it is very advised that returns and vents be cleaned and sanitized.  Also, during the smoke damage, fire damage restoration project it is also suggested to keep a new filter in the return or returns in your home and have this replaced ever week with a pleated filter as well as run air scrubbers and air purifiers as well as so much more like cleaning every thing in the home.

Good point. I have experienced what I thought was a sore throat the last month or so, but it was residual effects from a small interior fire. What you can't see still may hurt you.

This is important information...people don't realize that residual effects are long lasting and in the mistaken interest of "saving money" take the DIY route which can have disasterous results !

Hello! I just made the abc 12 flint news top story 9-8-17. I bought a house in Owosso MI. I wasn't aware that it had a fire. The house was Red tagged. Bought by a flipper for 10,000 had 90,000 in permits pulled for" complete fire restoration " . The flipper just painted over the soot or put drywall over it. I have removed a 40 yrd dumpsters worth of moldy, smokey rolled insulation that was covered by blown. We have 2 estimates for fire restoration companies for $100,000 left in fire damage! I can't seem where to kind information on the health hazards that this can cause. We all have to take Claritin everyday, itchy eyes, coughing and belly issues. I feel like something is bad bad bad in here. The walls are leeching soot we can't use the heat because the walls are chard around the vents . Could someone send me info on health effects that is legit?
