Baton Rouge recently received some great economic development news. We have been ranked as the #1 metropolitan area in the country among cities between 200,000 & 1,000,000 for new and expanded corporate facilities by Site Selection!
New & expanded corporate facilities as well as plant expansions were what powered this ranking. The Baton Rouge area reported 78 individual business expansion or relocation activities for 2010 which led the pack by a substantial margin.
This should really help our economy continue to grow. Clearly all the new jobs created by this economic development will generate wages that will be used for food, clothing and other day-to-day purchases. It will also inject more individuals and their families into the real estate market - whether they are buying or renting a home. But there is an added benefit to this development. As these companies either relocate to Baton Rouge or expand locally, they will be expending substantial capital dollars to do so....which will stimulate the construction and building industries.
This good news is not only for Baton Rouge, but for Louisiana as a whole. Louisiana ranked #3 (behind Texas and Ohio) in the number of new and/or expanded corporate facilities. That is amazing news - particularly when you compare the raw size and population of our state to both Texas and Ohio. In fact, on a per-capita basis, Louisiana ranked #1!
That's a lot to be proud of and this is the result of a great deal of hard work by a number of people and organizations such as the Baton Rouge Area Chamber.
