The Growth is out there....Why little Coverage

Here in our part of Macomb County, Michigan, all you have to do is take a drive on M-59 / Hall Road / Rosso Highway to see what is taking place;
...enlarging of some businesses;
...auto dealerships with inventory;
...parking lots used for actual shoppers;
...store interiors with products on shelves and shoppers in the aisles;
...crowded roadways during most of the daylight hours.

Yet, the articles lately seem to be centered upon negatives:
This is not a new aspect of reporting; after all the statement " If it bleeds, It leads" has been around for many years.
The shocking; the sad; the salacious; the secrets revealed seem to appeal to the general public.

What happened to the drive to report on the rebuilding of the economy through growth in Business ?

now it seems that our papers & reporters [all types] are dwelling on grabbing the headlines:
...."Republicans may sink Snyder's pension tax"--Michigan;
...."New Jersey police & fire unions joined by some from Ohio, Indiana & Michigan";
....CBS Chief: 'Two and a Half Men' future uncertain;

They do go on in all areas of news.
It has become my intent to build on the facts that DO indicate that there is good news out there.
 To that end, here are some positive reports:

...No more union dues for day care providers: Ed White / www.macombdaily.com  / Wed. March 2 2011
   the Dept. of Human Services announced that it is stopping the relationship [it had] with the MI. Home Based Child Care Council [affiliated with Mott Community College] . In 2006, this council allowed unions to hold an election among
the Home-based child care [workers] who cared for children from low-income families. This resulted in only 15% of such workers actually casting ballots with 92% of same voting for a Union.
A lawsuit is pending in federal court in Grand Rapids challenging the Union dues on constitutional grounds.  The care-workers--all of whom are individuals working out of their personal homes will no longer see 'union dues' deducted from the subsidy checks [for caring of low-income children]. the other fact is that NONE of these care-givers are / were state employees.  Allowed under the Granholm Administration as of 2006 this practice is discontinued by the DHS in MI.

...Hackel rescinds 5% cut for nonunion workers: Chad Selweski / www.macombdaily.com  Wed. March 2 , 2011
  The decision by Macomb Co. Exec. Mark Hackel came about as a result of 'unintended consequences' by a decision
   made by the previous commission.  The fact is that the present 350 nonunion workers will keep the 6 furlough days set for
   2011 budget.  All new employees [nonunion ] will not be bound.
   The article continues to discuss the Hackel choices.
   This bodes well for Macomb County for a thoughtful consideration of facts by the new Executive here.

...Mortgage companies relocated to 'Phoenix city':
  Nolan Mortgage Corp has relocated from Waterford to Pontiac, MI.  In 2008, company founder Jason Nolan began a new company--Michigan Mortgage Modification--with partner Trevor Sines.  Initially the new company was intended to assist their clients struggling with mortgage finances. It later was expanded to assist state-wide those home owners with mortgage modifications.
the decision to relocate to Pontiac was made as: "Participating in the rebirth of Pontiac is exciting" through the program
"The Rise of The Phoenix" which offered [s] incentives to viable businesses to come to Pontiac; to grow in Pontiac.

I think unions, as they are, have out lived their usefulness.  They have not adapted to changes in the workplace, public opinion and the needs of their members!
