Question! What is your routine?

By
Real Estate Agent with Realty Executives Tri County, Bellingham MA

Very simple one today, as the spring fever caught on to me.

I have been cleaning, organizing, de-cluttering my house, my office desk, my car... doesn't it smell like spring out there or, is it just wishful thinking? Anyway. I am trying to get my mind clutter under control and I thought the best way to remedy this problem is to go back to my "amazing" routine. First in the morning: read my e-mails along with the MLS. Second: Active Rain (not too successful this AM. As it is 6PM now). Third: FB. Fourth: .... you get the picture.

Of course, my gym time is the ultimate first ... (when I have time. lol)

My question: what about you? How do you get the day going? What are your first 3 MUST for your real estate business? It is picking-up. Spring is here. Gotta be ready! Please, do tell! : )

Two of the best tips I've ever learnt were:

- Begin tomorrow the night before (ie. always get a to-do list of what you need accomplish tomorrow)

- Work when others sleep (I sleep very little compared to most people 5 hours a day).

I get alot accomplish each day although day-to-day it may vary.

But it always start with a good cup of tea. As my health improves again, I will put my morning exercise/ quiet time with God back into my 4am.

I pretty much do the same as everyone else.  I check my emails AR in the morning as well. Only thing different is I have Tea instead of coffee...

I used to read books in the morning, now that I read blogs on AR.

I feel having a routine is very important. Even more so if you  work from home as I do. I'm usually in my "office" by 6:30. I spend about an hour having coffee and prioritizing my emails. Then I spend an hour in devotions and meditations. Then I go the gym every other day. The first part of my work is following up on leads and taking care of my upcoming closings. The rest of the day is generating new business, placing properties on the market and negotiating short sales. I always stop, cook and eat lunch with my wife around 2:30.

I stop working at around 5-5:30.

I see too many early risers here. I'm a night owl and even worse than that my body requires 8-9 hours sleep. Because of this, I'm trying to change my schedule to go from a night owl to an early riser, but haven't had much success thus far. I just lay in bed thinking about all the things I could be doing. Hopefully, I'll get this beast under control and get on a more realistic schedule.

It's tough these days to have a routine, especially as my wife/partner is not the early riser I am. But, like so many others, I'm a work in progress! Good post!

I have been on and off the AR train for the last 6-8 months and it's been miserable. I am religiously getting back to my schedule.

1. AR - Read and comment, write a blog post.

2. Respond to emails.

3. Sort through escrows, call banks as needed on shorts.

4. Respond to voicemails, send seller listing updates as scheduled.

Drink coffee, and repeat!

I declutter constantly - every few weeks I go through any piles that have started on my desk and either file the papers, recycle them or trash them. Since my real estate files are all stored paperless, we reuse a lot of paper that is printed out - just flip it over and print on it again!

This is really interesting to read.  I have what I call a flip-flop schedule so that my #1 priority - workout time - is always fit in.  (If I don't exercise, I am miserable to be around - guess that's my addiction.)  If I exercise in the AM, then I work at night.  If I plan to exercise in the PM, then I work in the morning.  My basic outline is:

5:30 - 7 Emails and blog

7-8  Breakfast and transaction maintenance

8-10 Gym/grooming or showings/appointments

10-12 Prospecting

12-1 Lunch/errands/spontaneous activities

1-5 Prospecting, appointments, listing management, transaction management, web site maintenance, follow-up - and any other things that may come up.

5-6:30 Family

6:30-8:30 Gym or showings/appointments

8:30 Toasted - phone off, reading, family, blog etc

Hi Lydie,

My work starts around 530 am by checking for any late night emails or texts that were missed, than AR, than prospecting by 9-10am once I'm done exercising.

Thank you all soooooo much for all your very interesting comments. I have read every single one of them.

It looks like; not surprising, everyone here has AR on their top priorities of the day. Many of you do put their workout on the top of their list... if you are like me, it is a question of "being nicer" afterwards! lol

Prospecting? Maybe this could be a topic in a later blog: how do you do it? I would think everyone has their own method. I would be curious to know yours!

Lots and lots of coffee!

Jay, I had no idea your office picture was plastered all over the web!!!lol

Thank you all, once again!
