Cut water usage

Charlotte NC put a mandatory ban on lawn watering into place yesterday, and tomorrow Concord, Kannapolis, Harrisburg, and Landis will have bans in effect.

Your last chance to water your lawn in Cabarrus County is tonight from 8p to 8a tomorrow.  For a list of current watering restrictions in Charlotte NC and surrounding counties, click here.

Folks, this is a serious drought.  If you think water is an endless resource, think again.  This is the lowest YTD rainfall total for the Charlotte region in 128 years.  We need rain, there's no getting around that fact.  And until it falls, we have to be good stewards of what we currently have available.

Leigh- We have a drought too. We are under water restrictions that have lessened as we have been getting lots of rainfall. However, we are looking at preserving the water and keeping restrictions in place overall. Katerina

Katerina, never thought I'd be praying for a hurricane-but even that possibility is slim this year!

Serious problem, Leigh. And good for people to know about.

We, too, are in a drought - the driest season on record in California, but no mandatory bans in my area, yet. Biggest fear is the threat of fires, which have already been plentiful in many areas. Expect you have that as well.

I think we'd have a lot fewer fires if cigarette and cigar smokers would keep their butts in their cars...

It is speading like wild fire and I was hoping for a good hurricane to dump loads of rain on us to fill back up the lakes and so forth.

Leigh, I sure am glad that we had plenty of rain this year here in Connecticut, and did not have to go through this.  I wonder how many people will be caught violating the water ban??

Leigh, it is getting very serious here.  If you haven't already, you should see Lake Norman.  I friend of mine in a kayak even ran aground.  I'm with you, we need a hurricane about now!

Hi Leigh,
I sure hope you guys get some rain soon.  We have been more fortunate here on the central coastal area of NC.  Are lawns dying?

Leigh,

Cary just went under year round water restrictions two days ago.  I was showing property in N. Raleigh today and I was absolutely shocked at the water levels at Falls Lake. There are so many areas that sit BARE w/no water at all. When the experts say our drought is severe they need to be taken seriously.
