BATTLE FOR EL CAMINO REAL

March 4-6, 2011

 

Are you a history buff; a seamstress inspired by period clothing; a veteran who enjoys watching others march around for a change; a teacher or homeschooling parent with a class full of kids who would rather learn history from sight and sound than from a mute textbook page; or, just someone who enjoys learning about our nation's past?

 

 

 

Set aside some time this weekend to attend the Civil War Reenactment | El Camino Real in Madisonville TXcivil war reenactment in Madisonville, TX! The "Battle for El Camino Real" will feature Union and Confederate cavalry, infantry, and artillery in pitched battle as they struggle to claim the day and secure a vital supply roadway. Before and after the battle, visit the campsite and discover how soldiers spent their moments of peace.

 

Historical Note: While no Civil War battle took place in Madisonville, the reenactment presents an accurate depiction of the war waged by American soldiers between 1861 and 1865 as North and South clashed in armed conflict.

For more details about the event, here is the announcement that appeared in the Madisonville Meteor this Wednesday:

Friday, March 4 to Sunday, March 6 - A Civil War re-enactment will take place at Lake Madison in Madisonville. Education Day is scheduled from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Friday for all schools and home-schoolers. Many demonstrations in period-correct dress will show the tasks of that era. A re-enactment of the "Battle for El Camino Real" begins at 2 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, with multitudes of uniformed infantry, cavalry and artillery soldiers. Gates will open at 9 a.m. Tickets are priced at $5 for adults and $3 for children 5-12 years of age. For more information, contact Billy or Carolyn Blow at 936-348-6737

Attended Rain Camp Called Shot Master

Trey, I'm with you! I've been to Antietam/Sharpsburg, Gettysburg, Lookout Mountain, and one or two minor battle fields. I used to be a Civil War buff (when I was a kid), studying and playing Civil War every day.

The good news is that we have this reenactment in Madisonville every year in late Feb. or early March, so maybe next year you can visit!
